BMW Aux cable questions

Curious I drive a 2002 BMW 330i it has the business radio. How would I know If I am able to install a aux cable or not into my vehicle. I hate making CDs. Any feedback is welcome.

I believe your head unit needs to have the MODE button.

BMW Aux cable questions

My head unit does indeed have "mode" button but I heard something like its only for certain models made within a certain time or something ?

The aux input capability was added on E46's (without navigation) starting with model year 2003. Just because the head unit has a mode button does not mean it supports aux in. Since you have a 2002 model year car then it did not come with a aux in capable head unit. You can swap out your head unit for one that come in a 2003 or later car or you will need to get an aftermarket unit such as the DICE, Media Bridge, etc.

Your car has to have a production date of 09/02 or newer to have the aux capability.

That's only for OEM aux. A grom aux unit will work in any BMW radio according to their reps.

This. Try to find a business cd with this date or later in the classifieds on this forum.. Then you can order the bmw aux cable on amazon for like 30 bucks.. Easy diy install, just did mine a couple months back.

Looks like it has the slot to plug it in, but I don't know if that all came that way since the beginning of production

I do believe they all have the slot. It just depends on the manufacturers part number of the stereo unit if it will accept an auxiliary audio input.

I have read several posts that claim you can't go by the production date.

The reason yours worked is because you have one of the following part numbers and drive a car built in 2003 unlike my car built in October 2002 and sold as a 2003 model:

Alpine, Model CD53, Part Number 65. 12-6 927 902 (Feb 2003-Aug 2003)iPod Data, Aux and Sirius Capable
Alpine, Model CD53, Part Number 65. 10-6 927 903 (RMFD thru Dec 2006) iPod Data, Aux and Sirius Capable
Alpine, Model CD53, Part Number 65. 12-6 941 505 (Jan 2004) iPod Data, Aux and Sirius Capable
Alpine, Model CD53, Part Number 65. 12-6 941 506 (RMFD thru Dec 2007) iPod Data, Aux and Sirius Capable
Alpine, Model CD53, Part Number 65. 12-6 943 429 (Oct 2004) iPod Data, Aux, Sirius and MP3 Capable
Alpine, Model CD53, Part Number 65. 12-6 943 430 (RMFD thru 2008) iPod Data, Aux, Sirius and MP3 Capable

Can you please post your stereo part number because if it isn't one of the part numbers listed this changes everything.
