My Ride: Sienna Red 330ci
Just purchased '01 330ci stick, sienna red!

Hey there, new here,

Just purchased an '01 sienna red 330ci. Stick shift. Lots of miles, but was previously owned by a BMW tech and is in fantastic shape. Most importantly, drives awesome. Has a D2 racing suspension for summer and stock suspension for winter. D2 racing suspension handles pretty phoenomonally, but is ROUGH on the road. A little too low as well. Would it be worth it to sell this suspension in order to replace it with something a little higher and with a little better of a ride? Only reason I need it higher is that I've only owned the car a week and already I've scuffed the driver side side skirt on something because the car is so low.

Let me get this straight: you switch out suspension as per the season? Why not just get airbags. Also, welcome.

Switching out -- yes, that was the idea. Aren't air bags pretty expensive? I'm 16...don't have more than a couple hundred loose dollars to spend at a time.

And thank you. E46F seems like a friendly place.

Woah ok back up. No offense but do some reading on here. If you can only afford a couple hundred bucks at a moments notice for this car you cannot afford it. You said the car has high miles and even if it was owned by a BMW fanatic there are certainly some maintenance things that need to be taken care of before you can even think about suspension. I'm sorry but that is the truth of the BMW world you have gotten into.

And honestly, depending on your budget, it might be best to sell that suspension and replace with stick for a higher ride height, better comfort, and more money in your pocket.

Ok ok ok...preventative maintenance comes first. I'll do some reading, any suggestions on where
to read? Helpful thread?

Clutch was replaced 10k miles ago. Oil separator, front pads and discs, brake fluid, transmission, differential, and engine oil(obviously) all replaced recently.

I sort of agree with you on that thing about selling the D2 suspension. I don't really need it at the moment, and if it can fetch me in the $500-$700 range that'd be nice.

Check mango's guides, he is a member here with great advice. It seems you are off to a great start but there is always more to do. The fun (and expensive) modifications will come in time. As dmax always says: "No matter what mods the car has, they mean nothing if it doesn't work. A well maintained 323i will always get you to your date, but a trashed M3 will not." I forget how he says it but its something like that.

Check out mango's threads. I think the first most important thing to address is the cooling system. Unless you have proof from the PO that it was done recently.

I forget how I say it too. I think I use a variety of ways to say the same thing, over, and over, and over, and over again.

If you want to have sex, do your belts before your lip.

If you want to ever know the love of a woman being warmed by the heat of your engine, in the woods, all alone, make sure the car runs. Gummi Pflege is not to be used as a personal lubricant.

A driving POS is better than a beauty stuck idle in your garage. A beauty stuck on your shifter is entirely different.

Dmax....you are quite the character around here I see!

Asked previous owner about cooling system- he said that most of the hoses are new while the t sat, tank, elec. fan, water pump and radiator are original. And that if it isn't broken then don't fix it. He's a bmw tech...

Here's some pics of the car!

It seems that your family likes red bimmers too! But I would put new wheels at the top of your modification list after the necessary maintenance. Also, the thing about "if it isn't broke don't fix it", as a BMW tech he should know that is the very essence of these cars. You replace things before they break.

That picture was taken at his place -- he has a 135i and his mom has a x3 35i

Something that I should know about the wheels? They are Bremerton Kraft br05's, plastidipped.

I think I'm gonna keep it on for another week or two, see if I like it, then well see. Tail lights are tinted and kind of go with the wheels...

Such a fun car to drive. What should I do about the cooling system issue? Start replacing stuff, basically right away?
