but thats not aux. yes your radio is compatible with devices such as simplicity from bavarian soundworks which hooks up to the oem prewired cd changer wires

Please don't waste your money buying the BMW audio input cable because it will not work on your radio.

I'm not sure about making one, but I bet it could be done. I'm in the same boat as you in that my stereo will not work with the BMW aux input cable. The cheapest kit I could find to attach an iPOD was this one:

I wish more folks on this forum would chime in and possibly give us a cheaper alternative for something under $75 or even $50.

My Ride: 2001 BMW 330xi
I was messing around with this aux stuff... And finally I just decided to replace the Head. I am super happy I did! The sound went from muffly mids to super clear! And, now I have bluetooth from my phone, where all my music resides.

Since taking these pictures, I have adjusted the color of the Pioneer deck LED to match the rest of my cluster.
