Weird whistle sound

Between 4500-5500 rpms i get a loud whistle sound coming from my engine bay. I've already checked the intake boots and are all good. DISA valve has good resistance on the flap, and no real symptoms of a vacuum leak. Please help I've ran out of options!!

Sounds like an exhaust leak. Perhaps bad gaskets on the exhaust manifold or loose header nuts. I'd take the heat shield off and examine the headers to see if that's the issue. It wouldn't hurt to check and it isn't hard to do. It should only take about 20 minutes to get the shield off and about the same to thoroughly look over the bolts, nuts and gaskets. That is, if in fact it is coming from the engine bay. If you don't hear it when you rev your engine in neutral than its possible that its something stupid like a loose cover under the car or anything causing turbulence on the exterior of the car.

So if you're sure it's coming from the engine bay, an exhaust leak would be my guess. Especially since a hole in the accordion boot wouldn't make a loud whistle like what you're describing. Hope that helps a little

I just replaced my headers last week on my car with all new OEM gaskets and the sound was there before so that rules out exhaust leak. And its more of a loud whistle like some sort or vacuum much different sound than exhaust leak. But thanks for the input

I had a whistle/squeal that sounded like a belt slip once the car had warmed up, while on holiday in the south of france. Took 2 AA guys 4 days to tell me that it was a leaking/cracked throttle body after telling me i needed a new alternator, aircon pump and serp belt/pulleys, in the end, the car was flatbedded back to the uk..... Turned out to be cracked pipe to the ccv..... luckily i had all the ccv parts in the car as it had been puffing white smoke and consuming oil before leaving on vacation. Our mechanic is well chuffed as he was convinced the car had terminal issues!
