Sound System Problem = No Sound

Hi all, New to the forum. Just bought a 2002 325i and am loving the car, except......
the sound system (Non H/K) randomly loses sound. Power to unit is fine....can still scan through stations adjust settings, etc. but it intermittently stops playing.

I think when this happens it is still playing because if you turn the volume WAY UP you can hear music, etc. but just barely and only in the passenger door speaker.

Checked all three fuses, There is a loud POP sound when it comes back on.

Found the amp.Checked plug in connector (unplugged and plugged back in) and ground. Both seem fine. I did test the white wire and I have about 11 volts there.

It will eventually turn back on (sound is back) and play for a while and then.....nothing.

Ive searched the forum also but cant seem to figure this out.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

It "sounds" like your amp is loosing its "turn on" signal. Thus originates at the head unit. You noted that there was 11 volts on the white wire. That wire is used for the turn in voltage. But 11 volts seems low. How old us your battery? Do you have any other electrical anomalies?

Battery is fairly new and at 12 volt plus. No other anomalies.

There must be hundreds of "e46 no sound" hits on google and not a single one has a fix for this problem! Unbelievable.

I have checked/disconnected each of the 10 speakers one at a time...still no sound.

Any other suggestions as to what to do or check next.

I really do not want to dump hundreds of $'s into a completely new system...but I need sound!

The simple answer is likely as not, your stock amp has died.

Find another in a boneyard if you can, they are not terribly reliable though, so you may have difficulty in finding one.

Assuming you have the sat nav system, then your bm53 amps have failed. I do quite a few repairs on these a month.
