Brightest reverse light bulbs (Type 1156)

Hey everyone. I have smoked Eagle Eye tails and my reverse lights suck. I have read that E46 reverse lights suck anyway, even without smoked covers. With my 20% tint, I have trouble backing up in the dark and the lights don't seem to help at all.

So, what have you guys used and what would you recommend?

There are tons of different LED bulbs on Ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...All-Categories

I don't know a lot about LEDs, and there are a few different types. Any LED experts out there want to share some insight as to what is going to work best for this situation?

Thanks

The brightest will be HID reverse lights, they do exist, but expensive. That will be the ultimate light. The next one in line should be the 7W Cree LED ones.

for the hid wouldn't the bulbs take too long to warm up anyway by the time they warm up you probably already hit the curve or whatever.

Thanks Khoalty. Although you are a sponsor, I believe you after just a few minutes of research. Why don't you carry them though if they are the best??? Looks like these start at about $22/pair shipped on Ebay.

the brightest is our HID Mini Reverse. We carry it, it's not too too bad for cost at $195 with wiring harness, resistors, H3 mini bulbs, and ballasts.
the next step is the 10W bulbs we carry that are ION LED bulbs. Those are $40 for a pair.

I just bought a full interior LED light set from LED-WORX. It also came with LED reverse bulbs. They are great.
Here is the link to the LED set. You can just order the reverse bulbs though.

ive seen HID reverse lights, sh1t is bananas for real, but its very difficult to setup with the limited space and really, if he carried them, would you buy $50 reverse HIDs, i mean just how much backing up are you gonna do. Even if you did, i doubt many would sell, which is prolly why he doesnt carry them. If youre electronic savy, find the smallest HID bulb type there is, and make your own setup
The one i saw, thats what the dude did. But i havent seen him post on here in years.

^Sorry, I was actually talking about the 7w Crees, not the HIDs. They are 22 bucks on eBay so I'm gonna try them. Umnitza has 10w but they would be well over twice as much with shipping.

My Ride: Knows Dubstep SUCKS
I just picked up and installed these bulbs (4th down from the top, astigmatic), and man, these things are impressive! I can easily see behind the car now when reversing, they are totally worth the $. I had the tree style with a bunch of LEDs on them (I think about 24), and they didn't even come close!

I bought a set of the 7w Cree's, and installed them yesterday. They are pretty bright. The one side effect I have noticed is that when I shift into reverse, static overwhelms my iPod RF transmitter. There is just a hint of static on regular radio stations, but the transmitter is completely fragged out. I haven't tried it on a different transmit frequency, as clear frequencies are hard to come by in the DC metro. Doesn't really matter as I also got the hardware to fully integrate my iPod, I just haven't had a chance to install it yet.

Sorry, I forgot to report back. I installed these a couple weeks ago. I got the Cree Q5 7watt bulbs on eBay for $20. They are definitely a lot brighter and worth $20... I still am not 100% satisfied but I will live with it. The way our reverse light housings are set up, spotlight-type bulbs like these are halfway cut off, and the reflector inside the housing is of no use. They obviously are designed for regular halogen type bulbs so I wasn't too surprised that they weren't super bright. Combine that with the fact I have smoked eagle eye tails and 20% tint, I am still a bit worried about backing into things on the ground behind me. I guess it helps that the EE LED brake light are bright as ****. I can definitely see cars behind me...

Of course, the bulbs that I bought came from China so they are mass-produced by children and not put together the best, so I had to mess with them a bit to get the base to stay snugly on the bulbs. Here are a couple pics of the bulbs...

Here you can see how I messed up the base a little trying to bend it to get it to stay on the rest of the bulb housing...

The other one came with the wire in between the base and the bulb housing, and it made it a tight fit. I did the first one this way too and they worked without a problem... (so far)

I also blew a fuse while installing because I'm a dumbass and had the car in reverse because I wanted to make sure they were working...
