Foot to the floor, shifting on the light I still have to wait on it,maybe 1/2 second
I read that on level 6 it was supposed to shift quicker than a formula 1 driver, maybe mine was built for beginners

Do you have the csl flash? It seems to quicken the changes for me or maybe it is in my head.

Re: How do you drive your SMG?

Forget smg with so many setting just get a real manual car with 3 pedals. Ferrari and Lamborghini yes paddle shift but sport cars like bmw get a real manual

@jimfred

There are several programs/tunes (called "FLASHES" also) for the BMW M3 from the factory (OEM BMW). These can be installed via several software programs. Some of the flashes are from earlier EU/NA versions of the software that is presently in the car. Some flashes are from different versions of the vehicle. (M3 CSL)

You should read up on the SMG reset (both hard & soft reset). Also your car might need a SMG clutch re-learn.

Try to find a local indy shop that knows about BMW's, especially the E46 M3 and the SMG transmission (with the SMG transmission being the most misunderstood). Dealerships are ok, but their labor rates will turn routine work into major monetary outlays.

choxor i never knew your car was smg. you should make a thread about your car soon. i've been meaning to do one.. post it in showroom.
Yes, I can do that, so I've said. I didn't say that I can also do slower and harder, medium and harder, hard and harder, and hard and fast. I've got two internal FSRs...I have a range of motion available as the situation warrants. Just saying. Variety is the spice of life...don't forget that little ones!

Thanks for the information,I just bought this car 4 days ago and only drove it for 2 days til I put it in the shop so I'm still trying to figure it out
Right now it seems if the first to second shift was quicker it would be fine but if I baby it from a stop light it will take almost 1.5 seconds to shift(and people behind me think it's breaking down) and if I pull away at normal speed if I don't time the shift and ease off the gas before it goes into second the momentum of car slows so bad I think I am re pushing the gas and it starts bucking like a horse
While it's at the shop they said there weren't any codes on it and the mechanic drove it and said that's how they drive.
I need to find someone in my area that is good with these transmissions
Does anybody know of any good shops in Va

Is that the reset were you put in neutral at 40 mph and pull in on the paddles?

Yay I'm learning
I will try that when it comes out of the shop, the mechanic ran diagnostics on the car and said it was clear except a code that wasn't cleared from a few years ago

Driving in anything less than S4 to me feels too lethargic when shifting.

**Side note......how often do you guys re-set your SMG?

Few times a month. It's kind of become a habit. I have a stretch of road on the way to work that it's convenient to reset on. I do a lot of mixed driving so the adaptation gets wonky. Only thing I dislike about SMG.

agreed, anything lower than S4 feels too slow for a car like this. I'm curious to see how much of a difference a CSL flash will make.

I reset my SMG once a month or so.
