My Ride: 03 e46
Unhappy brake tail lamps staying on

need help,brake tail lamps stay on when key on aux,and dont go off when car is started,this has happened when i reset the steering wheel airbag,or just maybe a coincidence have checked the stop light swith it seems to be ok.
any ideas

By stop light switch do you mean the sensor at the end of the brake pedal?
Have you checked it's seated flush at zero travel?

Try leaving the battery off overnight. I think the brake lights might go through the LCM as well not 100% on that though. If it does then you may have a faulty LCM.

i took out the brake light switch to-day,the lights stay on even with it disconected,will try dis connecting the battery over-night and see what happens,the brake light is different to others i have seen,they dont have a plunger on then,just a contact,anyway thanks for your ideas.

brake tail lamps staying on

The brake light switch is designed to fail-on. So if removed or not positioned correctly the lights will stay lit.
Removing it proves nothing.

Also while putting the brake pedal switch back be sure to insert the sensor while the pedal is depressed. Let the pedal push the switch out to the correct position.

My Ride: 03 e46
re my brake lights staying on/i pulled ea fuse until the brake lights went out,then discovered the instrument panel wasnt working,long story short,that fuse was out for about 3 to 4 hours,when i re inserted it the brake lights stayed off and the instrument panel is working,hit the brake pedal 2 or 3 times and brake lights are working ok ?so i dont know what i did but all is well again.
