I'm the 3rd owner of my car, bought privately. BMW Australia wouldn't know how to contact me, would they? Guessing I should approach a dealership workshop myself and see what they say?

Thanks Mr Alpine, while we had your car here we noticed you haven't been getting it serviced at a BMW dealership. Due to our extensive factory backed systems we have found the following maintenance items on your car that need attention, please sit down with one of our service advisors and enjoy a barrista made coffee while we book you in for your next service. While you are here also, why don't you take a new F30 for a drive and consider trading in your E46 but regardless we trust that with the professionalism we have shown throughout this **cough** recall **cough** you will bring your ultimate driving machine back to BMW.

Front Passenger Airbag Module Recall

My old 323Ci had a recall for faulty/improper calibration of the module that controls the side airbags. Few cases of them deploying after hitting a bump on the road while driving iirc.

Manufacturers tap into vehicle registrations to determine who needs to be sent the recall so the recall notice will be sent to the registered owner, regardless of how they purchased the car or what number owner they are.

Well that was easy to get booked in. Takes about 90 minutes with a wash and vacuum.

I just sent an email enquiry to my local BMW dealership workshop and they ran my VIN thru the computer. Even though my car falls within the date range of the recall, they said my car isn't affected. Go figure.

You sound dissapointed
I love the idea of having some apprentice rip my dash open and create nice rattles in my car after I've left the dealership.

Haha, nah, not disappointed at all! Just ensuring my car definitely wasn't affected, that's all. All good.
