Time for a new carry piece. Maybe.

With some recent side work, I've been able to start packing away a little bit of money at a time with the goal of buying something more carry friendly. As of now, I carry an M&P 9mm (full size) or a 1911 .45 ACP (also full size). The two options I've narrowed it down to are the Glock G10 and the Glock 36. Both feel great in my hands, which is surprising since other Glocks tend to feel like Lego bricks.

G30: A bit chunkier, higher capacity.
G36: Thinner, smaller capacity.

Either way, I'm going to be carrying a spare mag juuuuuuust in case.

I'm thinking the G30 will be the way to go since my hands are so large. It will also add a slight bit more heft to the gun to keep things slightly more manageable.

I had a G36 and never had an issue.

G30 is a beast.

I switched from G26/G19 to HK P2000 v3 DA/SA for carry.

I get an 11.5lb pull on the first round (or I can pull the hammer back for 4.5lb) and 4.5lb after.

It is like the best of the revolver and the best of a semi with 14 rounds in one gun.

I feel sooooo much more comfortable with DA/SA and no safety.

JMO.

Depends on the size and caliber you are looking to carry: Glock (pick your flavor), XDM, XDS, smaller M&P, & Kahr

I was thinking .45 ACP, but I'm definitely open to 9mm as well. Far less recoil and a higher capacity while still delivering a significant amount of damage. Glock is towards the top of my list simply because I'm buying a defense tool, not a range gun. That's not to say I'm not going to the range with it, but it will spend 99% of its time on my hip. My M&P can become my bedside gun and my 1911 can be saved for range days. My .357 magnum will (hopefully) work its way to my girlfriend's side of the bed.

All bases covered. Carry, bedside, range, and girlfriend.

Glockman carries an HK!?!

So do I. I know what you mean about the DA/SA vs DAO with no safety.

About recoil...

My XD-s in .45 is far easier to shoot than my nano in 9mm. The only size difference is about an inch more barrel on the XD. I thought I was imagining things until a couple friends of mine tried them both as well and agreed.

Definitely check out the XD-s.

G26 in my center console, G19 on my nightstand.

HK P2000 on my hip or S&W 638 in my pocket or both.

If you are set on .45, and you have massive bear paws for hands, the G30 would be a good option with a Pearce grip extension. That, or the S&W M&P45c.
The G36 is a bit more manageable for those of us who can't palm a medicine ball.
Or the new G30S.

9mm is my second choice. I'd like to shoot both the 9mm and .45 ACP compacts before making a decision. I don't want a long handle, but I want something I can wrap my hands around.

How long have you been carrying?

Ive gone from 1911,G19,M&P9 compact,Baby glock,PF9,P3at .380 over the years.

Now i'm spoiled by pocket carry and couldn't imagine going back to a G19 sized pistol. Its always Effective vs comfort battle or we would be carrying full size pistols. As I got older I just lean more to comfort to make sure I will and can carry everyday all day.

That said G36.

Everyone is going to 9mm because that's the trend, but there's nothing wrong with a .45ACP. Plenty of people still use it, and it's still a very good round for penetration through barriers. The only pitfall of the .45 is the size of it, which makes for a bigger framed gun and lower magazine capacity.

If I carried on the job, I'd opt for my M&P 9mm. This is a grocery getting gun. Trips to the store, out to dinner, etc.

I'm considering the 9mm for the extra capacity. I mean... 12 medium sized holes are better than 8 big ones, right?

I guess the point of the question was that if you could carry a palm sized .380 in your pocket at work would you?

Not a smartass question I didn't carry to work for awhile... A robbery happened and changed my tune.

I would if I knew there would be no repercussions in the event I had to use it, sure. Granted, it's always better to be tried by six than carried by twelve...

I don't want a palm-sized gun. I'd like something I can actually get my whole hand on.

In most free state(I would guess alabama too) you could only be fired and at most civil repercussions.

This is obviously based on a job not with the Government or a restricted area.

how fast will those medium sized holes put down a perp compared to the 8 large ones? Isn't that always the question? heh
