Federal Shut down, will it happen?

I'm also a GS. Switching over to mail.mil was a huge PITA because of my dual persona status.

If nothing else it gives the rest of the world a laugh at the US's perceived inability to run anything properly every other year.

I wonder if you'll get another credit rating downgrade the same as the last time this crap all kicked off?

I not quite sure I understand why the GOP doesn't do what every other opposition party does in a democratic country - get into power first before trying to repeal laws they don't like - after all, didn't the POTUS have a mandate for Obamacare? It's as if the GOP think people won't remember them trying to shut off half of the Federal Government (even if that's not factually accurate).

Obamacare did not have a mandate. It was unpopular before it was passed, and remains unpopular after passage. In fact, it was so unpopular the 2010 elections were a historic (as they say) shift in the GOP favor...mostly due to Obamacare.

Our system here in the US has what we call checks and balances. It isn't "oh well that guy won, anything he says goes".

Where do you get off trying to insert rationality and reason into this? OBAMACARE MUST BE KILLED, DAMN THE CONSEQUENCES, or the actual fact that there's no real way for the RR (radical right) to kill Obamacare. Oh, now I'm resorting to rationality and reason, sorry.

Yeah! Obamacare is the Law of the land! Just like slavery was for the first 80 years of our history. No matter that the workforce participation is at an all time low or that the majority of new jobs are part time, or that wages have actually declined over the past 4 years. The important thing is that Obama wants it and the public be damned! He shall have it!

Historically speaking, you can never undo one of these entitlement-type laws once they are enacted. That's why. Once it is in, it is there forever no matter how big of an albatross it becomes.

I want to ask all the Obamacare supporters this. Have you read the damn bill or are just siding with your man?

And I pose the same questions to those against it. You said you read it, well maybe not all of it, what provisions have you read so far that you don't agree with and/or dislike?

I'll speak to the snippet that I read shortly. I would like to point out that it is ignorant for a person to unknowingly support something with no idea of what that something entails. Knowingly just makes that person a fool. Agree?

Just found out we're exempt from furlough due to our unique spending and budgetary practices

Didn't you lads have a minor skirmish over the entitlement to own black dudes? Yes, I'm sure you had more than a few arguments about it and decided that this was one entitlement too far and got rid of it. I'm sure I read that somewhere...

Re: Federal Shut down, will it happen?

That was situation that nearly kept this country from coming into existence to begin with. It's the reason our Constitution has the 3/5s clause. It was never intended to stay but the southern states refused to ratify the Constitution if northern states insisted the slaves be free. While a civil war was what led to the abolishment of slavery in this nation, the founders envisioned it being done though the ammendment process.
