lol. that would have been a better response to him.

anyways, your project is looking good.

i bought a few months ago the black dye from leatherique as well.
it was for the drivers seat.
i didnt use it though as the RO and the PC did quite a good job in softening the leather that i dont feel re-dyeing is necessary.

Looks awesome!

I want to do this to my E90 so bad (I'm thinking cinnamon since it'd look great with the sparkling graphite exterior) but I'm not confident enough to sand my leather.

In your opinion, is this something that most people could tackle given they have the time and patience? Or should I buy a used back seat or something to practice on?

Well.... I never did this before but I used a somewhat fool proof method. I did my door panels first (never touched) so they had some margin for error. They came out great, so I continued to the back seats. Happy with those, obviously I moved on to the fronts.

You learn as you go, but if you read up on it, you will feel comfortable from day one. I'm just waiting on the durability to stand the test of time. I'm getting matte clear coat from furniture clinic and then I'll see how it stands up.

Wish I had known, J... would have gave you mine for a pittance in trade, before selling.

Looks great. OEM. So this has been proven not to come off on clothes over the long term?

It won't come off on clothes, especially after I put a matte clear coat on it....

Nice. I remember doing mine in Dec 2011. So much work but the results were well worth it!

clear coat from furniture clinic came in last night... ordered it late in the day on tuesday, QUICK shipping!

tonight... sanding the front passenger seat, putting that all back together, clear, and letting it sit overnight. tomorrow, i will start the final stage of this project, driver's seat will be oiled and sanded, hopefully be finished by the weekend, let it rest, clear, and then i'm done done done done done

so i used the satin finish clear from furniture clinic... sanded the seats with 2000 grit before hand, cleared, then used a hair dryer to dry the seats... 3 coats. Unreal finish on these. They look and feel OEM. The leather still has the natural grain coming through, but also has that soft, smooth, chalky feel of brand new OEM leather.

VERY impressed with the clear from furtniture clinic

driver's seat is the only one left to go. will be out of the car tomorrow. I'll bolt the passenger side in just so I can sit in it for a couple days, while i finish up the driver seat

Driver's seat yesterday, sanded and ready to rock

about 2.5 hours later

ended up spraying the front door cards again, sanded them and cleared them today, they feel like butter. tomorrow or tuesday, I will be sanding the driver's side down and clearing it, then will install 48 hours after... most likely thursday

also, figured i would play along with that matte gloss and do my door handles, so now they have a nice matte finish to them
