Hardtop Needs Adjustment?

Just finished fully installing hardtop (didn't have hardware when I picked it up), as well as the passenger window regulator...

the drivers quarter window is having issues operating as soon as it comes in contact with the hardtop...

does the hardtop need to be adjusted laterally, left-right, on the car?

any thoughts?

Google e46 hardtop adjustment and you will find instructions. Yes the hardtop can be adjusted. The big pins can be adjusted up and down and side to side

well, I was hoping to get an answer tempered by experience, has anyone experienced this? not the check the Internet-google machine answer...

this was the adjustment page I found, http://bmw.workshop-manuals.com/3_Se...=2189#_/exjun_

good direction, but the question still stands, has anyone else experienced window operation issues after the installation of a second hand hardtop?

Hoppy...the answer to your question on my '05 330cic is NO. However, be aware that the window regulators are very sensitive to "high drag" as they are going up. IF you do not have the top adjusted correctly, they WILL bind (feel resistance) and stop the window from continuing up & it will start back down. This is a built in safety. If the top is NOT installed correctly, you WILL have this issue. It sounds like the rear window is "hitting" the hard top seals, feeling the resistance & stopping. Try putting some spray lube like silicon in the seals & see if this helps.

so I did attempt a lateral adjustment, no real improvement, so a little closer inspection revealed that the weather strip on the drivers side is slightly defective...

left image is the passenger side, right is the drivers side.

I'm pretty sure this is the reason for the window operation issues...

any recommendations to correct? adhesive and a clamp?
