I'm looking for an inexpensive head unit for my car

All I really need is something with aux in. The current head unit has CD and radio and as nostalgic as it is burning CDs to listen to, it's getting old real fast. I'd like to keep it under $100, the cheaper the better as long as I'm not buying a piece of sh!t that's going to crap out on me in a year.

Look no further than your local thrift store - home to stolen head units.

Protip: The more urban the thrift store, the more selection you'll have!

When we went to buy a new stereo to put into my daughter's car, I was quite amazed at how much stereo you can get for 100 bucks these days. Just head over to your local BestBuy or other electronics emporium.

Pioneer. Best Buy has plenty for $99-120. Not a fan of any other brand head-units except Alpine high-end.

If it matters, I've literally caught head-units on fire with my old system that I built. Kept buying $100 head-units. Finally dropped $250 on a Pioneer (you can get one comparable now for $120) and for 3 years it didn't struggle once. Pioneer makes quality head-units, decent speakers.

Like Dave said try Best Buy or you can even shop at www.crutchfield.com. I believe they'll give you a free install kit which will allow the head unit to plug n play with your vehicle.

sonicelectronix.com

by far the best website when it comes to this kind of stuff and by far best pricing. Best customer service as well. They replaced one of my Rockford Fosgate 12" subs twice! with no problems. and no i do not work for them, looking at a headunit as well, with bluetooth and pandora..

I'm thinking Kenwood or Pioneer, possibly Alpine too.

Anything Kenwood.

Almost everything else in that budget won't even be comparable otherwise.

We wound up getting a Kenwood deck for my daughter. It was more than $100, but it has Bluetooth and HD and a bunch of other things, including a USB port on the front. She never uses the USB, however, because she can easily stream her music via BT. It also has a hands-free BT system so she can use her cell phone without a headset. It's pretty impressive for how much it cost (especially compared to what you used to get for that amount of money).

IDK about crutchfield but plug and play isn't cheap, so I doubt they do that, but if they do, go that route for sure.

You'll need two wiring harnesses, one to plug into the stock plug behind your stock radio, and one that plugs into that plug and whatever brand unit you pick. If you have steering wheel controls or anything like that, another harness most likely. You'll also need a dash kit.

Last I checked, Best Buy uses Metra so OP you can just search the car and pull up what you need and order directly.

Install it yourself. Done.

Yeah I'll definitely be installing it myself. It's going to suck tearing the existing aftermarket unit out and putting yet another wiring harness in.
