Anyone does volunteer EMS?

Hey guys, looking to further myself so I'm looking into being a volunteer EMT in NYC on my free time. Anyone know what training is like, certifications that they will train you in, etc?

My mom and sister took an EMT course at the local university many years ago. They taught them all kinds of EMT stuff.

That doesn't help you at all but hopefully my presence in this thread will generate a little interest among the OT hoi polloi. As you may have noticed, I'm kind of a big deal around here.

I did an ROP EMT course in high school. Didn't feel I learned enough. Easy course and easy cert. I say do it!

Solid,

Took an EMT in college, pretty good class. Volunteered at a local Ambulance Corp. and also worked p/t in an Emergency Room. Pretty cool life experience.

Along the same general lines, does anyone do volunteer SAR? In SoCal folks go missing sometimes in state parks and such, and I'd be willing to help look for them. Seems like they use a lot of volunteers for such searches, but I don't find much useful info on local LEO websites about it. Anyone experienced with it?

Check with your local Fire Department. Even better if they are a Volunteer company. Many times they will train you or pay for an EMT Class..We used to do that where I worked. Some were younger guys that wanted to persue a career and others just wanted to give back to the community. Anyway hats off to you and I hope you get some information.
