Cause and effect. They didn't just plop their asses in Congress voluntarily and "go to work".

Gerrymandering aside each member had to be voted in.

Nothing about gerrymandering aside--especially considering gerrymandering is a rigging of voting districts. You have a minority representation of the population that is capable of causing gridlock because they oppose the majority of the rest of the population.

But...but...it's about holding people accountable for their statements and backing their posts up.

Who Shut Down the Government?

People crying about Gerrymandering should look at the shape of the districts held by Congressional Black Caucus members.
http://www.flsenate.gov/PublishedCon...047_35x42L.pdf

Look at Districts 20, 21, and 22
District 20 is held by CBC member Alcee Hastings.
A large part of the district is Everglades wilderness.

I must confess that I voted for Alcee Hastings on those occasions I fell into his district. He is a solid thinker. I lived at the same address for 22 years and kept getting shuffled from one district to another.

I've come to the conclusion that Thomas Sowell is intellectually dishonest.

I would be interested in seeing examples of his logical fallacies.

I won't waste time on this guy, but here's a brief snippet that should paint you a picture:

Quote:
In czarist Russia, for example, the economy was worse than ours is today and the First World War was going far worse for the Russians than anything we have faced in Iraq. Moreover, Russians had nothing like the rights of Americans today. So they went for "change."
That "change" brought on a totalitarian regime that made the czars' despotism look like child's play. The Communists killed more people in one year than the czars killed in more than 90 years, not counting the millions who died in a government-created famine in the 1930s.
Other despotic regimes in China, Cuba, and Iran were similarly replaced by people who promised "change" that turned out to be even worse than what went before.
Yet many today seem to assume that if things are bad, "change" will make them better. Specifics don't interest them nearly as much as inspiring rhetoric and a confident style. But many 20th century leaders with inspiring rhetoric and great self-confidence led their followers or their countries into utter disasters.
These ranged from Jim Jones who led hundreds to their deaths in Jonestown to Hitler and Mao who led millions to their deaths.

If you don't see the crazy, I can't help you. I don't bother with Mr. Sowell. He knows his audience. I'm not it.

Bigot of the year award goes to! None other than the great 'busa himself. Congratulations.

This thread aside, this isn't the first time you've "dismissed" an article or discussion because it doesn't align with your views.

big·ot n. One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.
If it makes me a bigot to dismiss someone who takes the word "change" and proceeds to use that as a legitimate reason to make a connection to Mao and Hitler, then so be it.

The OP has nothing to do with Mao or Hitler. It has to do with the constitution and the processes in place in our government with regards to spending.

I've always wondered why republicans are so willing to believe anything they read (if it's from a source tht the republican party backs or vice versa).

And they always act so butthurt when that source is proved to be FOS. Why can't they accept the truth?
