If their only job were to vote, then that would be the only tool available to them. Since it isn't, there must be some leeway in what their job is.

The fact that Boehner repeatedly refused to hold a vote is astonishing.
Now I get it! It's the Republicans' fault for giving Obama a reason to shut down the government.

Q. What did the GOP do to shut down the government?

A. The refused to give the King everything he wanted.

and they still left empty handed. It backfired on them. They didn't learn this lesson in the 90s.

haha, that's actually more true than anyone would believe. A lot of people don't seem to get that the people rejected 1 party rule (aka 2008 election results) quite harshly and have repeatedly voted for a divided government.

This is also true, why even damage your brand or re-election chances if you aren't going to take it all the way? Retards

I'd have more respect if they said screw re-election I'm doing what is right and sticking to it.

Well, we will see if we have to go through this again in January (assuming they pass the current "deal")

Which would have been fine were it only themselves that were going down, but they put the gun to the heads of the functioning of our government and to the U.S. economy as a whole.

Hopefully this incredibly radical and destructive brand of reactionary political nihilism will be effectively discredited and defanged. Ironically this foolish and irresponsible gambit has probably destroyed any realistic hopes of rolling back, much less killing, ACA.

Regardless of the significant damage this TP/GOP fiasco has visited on the U.S. as a whole, the huge additional damage to their own tattered party will be acute. Post 2012 there was some genuinely deep and authentic self assessments done. However, these were tossed aside in this regressive spasm. Perhaps now those more forward looking and constructive voices in the GOP can rise to the fore over the ashes of this failed TP Waterloo.
