Keep your distance on the highway!

This happened on my way home from school.
Car in front of me came to an abrupt stop, I saw the civic in my rearview mirror dip and then swerve into the carpool lane. I did go from 70-0 rather quickly but I didn't even activate abs and I already had my hazards on before I came to a complete stop. If they didn't swerve to the left my car would probably be totaled by now and I'd be in the hospital.

After watching the recording a couple times, I want to say that the blue truck was trying to retrieve that package on the side you see in the beginning, his hazards were already on prior to the accident and comes to a complete stop on the left lane forcing everyone to panic stop. He promptly drives off after the accident.

Thanks for the reminder. Unbelievable someone could be so selfish and ignorant. And irresponsible to drive off. I have a feeling the blue truck will be found! Good you have the video too.

I had something like this happen to me this week. I was driving down an old one lane highway and a car appeared out of no where. They were really on my azz. I was going through the rough part, driving over uneven pavement. This was the city old highway. When I got to two lanes, I moved to the right so they could pass me. Then stayed behind. I started to slow up because of the 3rd car in front was slowing. Well this lady, rolls around me and starts to speed...not noticing both lanes were stopped. She slammed right into a truck.

people really need to pay attention. I think they should make people take defensive driving course around the age 25-30yrs old then again 20yrs later.

No ****. Who the **** doesn't follow the two second rule? I follow it religiously. Two seconds between me and the last object the car in front of me passed. No exceptions.

I'm always looking at least 5 cars ahead of me and don't follow trucks/suvs that block my view. simple. Often I'm not even looking at the car directly in front of me at all.

2 second? I usually do 3-sec minimum on the highway. The faster i go, the bigger the space

Over so many years of driving I still don't get it why people tend to insist on tailgating other cars going 80+ on a highway. Even though I know I have the best brakes and probably the best reaction time in a 10 miles radius I still leave 2-3 second gaps to the car in front of me.

Two seconds is probably a bit close for anything but ideal conditions.
