Is it OK to run 205/50 on Style 44 for winter?

I have a set of winter tires in 205/50/17 that came with my car. I know ideal wheel size would be 17x7. However, a friend of mine has Style 44s which are 17x8 that he is willing to sell for dirt cheap. Will I be OK stretching 205/50 onto 8" wheel or is it a bad idea? This will be for winter tires only.

Thanks in advance!

Use 225/45R17 for 17X8 wheels. 205/50R17 lists the maximum recommended rim width as 17X7.5.

Gary, I appreciate the reply, but you clearly did not read my post. I already own 205/50 tires so I am looking for options of making my current tires work.

Gary answered your question perfectly. Your existing tires will be stretched, as the maximum approved rim width for that tire is 17x7.5.

I read your post clearly and answered your question precisely. To expand further on it, the complete rim width range of 205/50R17 tires is 5.5"-7.5".

If you buy those 17X8 wheels, you'll need to use tires that are 225/45R17.

is there a chart that shows minimum/maximum rim sizes for different size tires?

There probably is online somewhere, but they way I do it is to check whatever tire size is in question. IE: 225/45R17 lists 7.00" to 8.50" .

Tirerack specifies all that information right on each tire in a specific size. Just click on the specs tab.

Gary, I found when selecting my 330ci w/ sport package on Tirerack.com, it defaults to 205/50 R17. Can you please correct this? The factory specs for the rear are 17x8.5, therefore, the tires would not fit
