And the s4.5... Well yes it's better than the 4 but not that much better than the G2... Either Dave the money get a G2 out at least wait till the G3 comes out and with your options.

But that's my opinion.

Moto X, it's a treat to use and the secondary "Ask Google" chip/command is really cool. Screw the bloatware on HTC/Samsung products.

^ that was one of the other reasons I'm interested in the nexus 5.

I'm a very minimalist user (emails, texts, calls, light browsing) and don't need all the extra crap that slows the phone down.

Might as well tell people to get a 328 and engine swap it with a LS3 to be like a M4. That's about how I feel about it.

I have a G2 and it's nice.

i'm rather intimidated by messing with things like rooting nor find it necessary for what I need it to do. I never jailbroke my iphone fwiw

prefer to get something idiot proof right out of the box.

Agreed, while rooting is an option for some, I really do NOT think "fix it by rooting it" is acceptable, companies need to pull back towards the Android core and then some of the bloat filled phones would be less intimidating to the masses.

I like the moto x and Nexus 5 for this reason. No bloated skin on them.

They're both getting kind of old now though, so I'm not sure what I'd buy today...

Hopefully there will be a new Moto X later this summer

It'll likely be around until the Nexus 6 (or whatever they call it) comes out this fall. They usually launch a new phone with the new OS version.

N6 will be my next phone at this point. For those that don't want to root and have extra cash, buy the google play edition of whatever phone. Comes with stock android and no rooting required. Downside is that you have to pay retail for the phone. Worth it if you're out of contract or your provider is doing the silly 0% finance BS.

I had an S4 and just got the HTC One M8. The HTC is a great phone, but it is larger than the S4 because of the front facing speakers. The speaker placement is great, and I am slowly adjusting to the size. The other thing I dont like about it is that the nav buttons are on the screen. So, even though it has the same size screen as the s4, the on screen buttons take away from some of that space. Other than those two things, this phone is great. It is much quicker than my S4 ever was (it wasnt slow by any means), even when I put a stock android rom on it. I have read that the camera on the HTC is not as good as the Samsung phones, but I havent looked at any pictures from my computer. They look the same when you view them on the phone.
