Starting point still is those same econoboxes. They just got better a generation later. The latest generation of corolla, Mazda 3, etc are getting pretty close to that of or 10+ year old e46 which would be liveable for the kind of performance they offer.

It's supposed to be an option, so we'll see. It should be a screamer with the N55.

All rumor at this point. Before the south Africa stat leak they were saying it would be standard on the m235. It's not an option on the euro 1 so I doubt it will be here either, but I hope you're right. Talking about maybe an $800 option vs buying a $2k differential and paying labor for install.

If the 2 gets an LSD option, the F30 boys are going to be all over that retrofit.

Definitely

Everything I have read said that it would likely be available as a part from BMW performance like the euro 1 series, but now that I'm trying to verify that on BMW international site, i don't see that they offer an lsd for the 1 or any other car for that matter. Who knows then.

I absolutely love it. Its the closest size to the e46 which is a great size for me. I think I'd prefer 4 doors having owned 2 coupes but I will definitely consider the 228 for the price.

+1 and i bet it looks even better in person, like almost all cars do.
I think my next car will likely be a manual 228i M sport, fully loaded. Mineral white is sooo key:

I would say it is the closest thing to an e46 bmw has made since 2006. With the e82 1 series being a close second. These cars are really pretty cool.

I like how they lowered the roof line, and no longer has surprise buttsex headlights. I really want to see it in person

I got bored, so excuse the bad pshop

I like the fact it has a similar roofline and hoffmeister kink to the e46

In the US, the 1 series is gone. The new 1 series was released a year or two ago and is still sold in pretty much every other market besides here.

The next 1 series will be switching to fwd and may or may not come here. Smart money would be on it arriving here in fwd sedan form to compete with the cla and a3 unless the unexpected happens and they totally tank in the sales department. Even if they do tank, it still will probably come as BMW feels it necessary to fill every possible niche even if it is only a few thousand sales a year (ie X6).

Will it have the numb sedate electric steering like the F30? I've had an F30 M Sport as a loaner and the dull electric steering was my biggest complaint.

I still think one of the Best BMWs of the last 10 years was the E46 330 performance package sedan. Wish I would have picked one up back when I had the chance. The few that I see for sale now are generally tired or 'well worn'.

Different interior trim, thicker perforated sport steering wheel, ZHP software, more aggressive cams, different dampers, different springs(?), different bumpers, different shift knob, different interior (if you didn't choose leather), different wheels, different exhaust, 3.07 differential
