Any idea what this does ? I'm getting oil burnt smoke coming from that general direction

That's not leaking oil, it's the valve cover gasket that is.

Changed the valve cover, it's sealed well. Im guessing it's probably left over oil from the leak. But that thing is soaked in oil, the smoke comes from directly under it and the gasket is dry as can be

Get some brake parts cleaner and clean off all of the oil.

That's the drier for the AC system that's not causing smoke, you must have residue still on the heat shield
