NY-Legal Build Thread

Hey guys, looking for some input on how to build a NY legal AR. Sucks I live in this bullshit state but going to have to make follow the laws. Anyway, here's what I've been thinking. Let me know what you guys think. Was thinking I could get the stock pinned which makes it legal.

EDIT: Blue shading means I already own the parts. Lower is stripped BTW.

Parts look fine to me, but why the UBR?

actually, I think the UBR is a no go for NY since it's adjustable.. per NY law your rifle needs a fixed position stock.

I'll say it, what's the point? I was gonna do this too, but since you can only load the thing with like 7 rounds now or some bs, it defeats a huge point of having it IMO. Before the SAFE act, it made sense for me to buy a pre-ban lower and build the thing out the way I wanted, then grab some pre-ban 30 rounders and have a NY AR. Now, it makes no sense at all to me, considering the BS you have to go through

Made this list a few months back, not sure exactly why I picked the UBR to be honest. Is something wrong with it? Better alternatives?

It's real purpose is for home defense. The 7 round limit sucks but won't stop me from building this.

It's a fine stock, but it's really expensive and quite heavy. If you had said that the primary purpose was bench shooting, I would say its a good choice (although still expensive) and the fixed cheek piece might be beneficial. But if the primary purpose is self defense, I think it's overkill.

If you need the storage, the Magpul STR is a great choice as it has the battery tubes, a clamp system, and an updated cheek weld. If not, the Magpul CTR is great as it's light and has the same clamping system that keeps it from rattling (if that's important). If a slight rattle isn't a problem, then the Magpul MOE or B5 SOPMOD are both great.

Personally, I like the CTR the best. I'm kind of OCD, so I like the clamp to keep the stock from rattling and I don't need any storage in the stock.

Because 0 people will follow the mag laws.

BTW, hows that work with NFA, 7 round m16?

David lives in Florida, it's a non-issue.

Got me covered, thanks buddy.

To further answer the question, none of my NFA toys can go to NY anyway, even though we own property there. NY banned most of that stuff before the NFA was even conceived.

I did want to do the build, but throwing $2000+ at a rifle that is neutered by a 7 round mag makes no sense to me, at least as a part time resident. And regarding the mag law, it sucks, but as an aspiring attorney I can't afford to fly in the face of the law like that ha and the penalty is pretty stiff.
