Well.... E46 330Ci has better power to weight ratio than SV6 commodore... They're about as quick as you're going to get on your P-Plates, and they're fun to drive.... if it's not broken.

My Ride: E46 M3
Haha I owned a 330Ci before my M3 and I have no idea where some of you pull some figures from. My fuel economy on that car was between 11-14L/100km. That was driving to and from Uni and about 50-70% of that was in regular Sydney traffic. Insurance was under my fathers name (along with the car) and I wasn't listed as a driver and it was still about $1100 a year (no accidents and only 1 speeding fine) and that was with AAMI. I was 19 when I got it.
Maintenance wise it cost me between $1000-$1500 a year but I was using a well known Independent BMW mechanic.
I mean TBH I loved both the 330 and the M3 and the reason I regret selling them both is because they drive amazing. However keep in mind every stock E46 other than an M3 is now considered slow, considering even a new Camry will beat it. I specifically remember 2 instances where I was embarrassed in my old 330 - a Mitsibishi Colt (Ralli Art edition) munched me at the lights. And another time a Merc Vito van kept up with me between like 50-100 which was kind of sad. So just keep in mind if your looking for speed, then this isn't the right choice.

End of the day would I suggest you get it, well if you want the look and status symbol then go for it but if I was in your shoes I would go for a new car with warranty just for peace of mind.

I have owned my E46 for close to 3 years. It is a joy to drive and has not cost me much in maintenance.

Newer cars will probably be more reliable and cheaper to run but not many will give you the driving pleasure of an E46.

Seriously? You must have had some pretty boring cars, e46 are dam boring in stock form, slow, handle very average and not really all that great at anything. Sure their not a bad 10 year old cruiser., but for shear driving pleasure..... Ehh., I have more "driving pleasure in my stock as a rock fg ute.

Except an early 330Ci sport will set you back like 10-15k tops now...

I'm not familiar with R32's but I remember their price being a lot higher than early e46.
