Or know the fact that I am a very senior engineer and systems architect for the biggest software and hardware company in the world and have been doing it for almost 20 years. It's cute that you think the term OS would only relate to your personal computers, when in fact most devices have an OS of some sort. My refrigerator has an OS. It's cute how you think you know so much, but... well you wouldn't understand.
No, your refrigerator has firmware.

Your car has firmware. It does not have an operating system.

Our projectors at school do have an operating system - they run Windows Embedded.

My router does have an operating system. It runs Linux in the background.

Get the difference?

It's cute how you think you know so much but...well you wouldn't understand.

I.e. these don't get updated. Then there is the operating system that the ASIC's speak to. Yes... this is held in NVRAM
You just literally described the DME as firmware.

'grats.

Class of 2013, folks.

Just don't update to Win46 8. It's so different and buggy and stupid. They took away the start key for some reason, now you have to "swipe to start." Supposedly in Win46 8.1 Mango they're putting the starter lock cylinder back, and they are also giving a complementary cooling system refresh at the dealer!

OS version?

Can I overclock my DME? Should I switch to water-cooled if I do?

I was going to stay away from this thread, and let it die. But this is just too creative!
