They are less than $50, everyone should have 10.

So is it safe to assume all Gen 3s were made in Austria?

No, because they're still making the Gen3 models in both countries.
I couldn't tell you when the switch happened. You can tell the difference by the left side of the slide. It'll say "AUSTRIA" or "USA".

Did they fall off a boat?

You would need two 33 round mags if you wanted to have more shots than ever necessary on hand. I remember not having those mags. It was a terrible time in my life. But with them now I can do more push ups, got a promotion at work, my GF's elbows are no longer pointy and she is doing some modeling now.

Seriously though I can't come up with a real reason other than they are fun and are now banned in my state and I would hate for anyone to miss out on the opportunity to own them.

My recommendation is to shoot the guns you are considering before you buy one. I myself prefer the Springfield XDm and that is what I own in the 3.8 .40. If you don't plan to conceal there is no reason to get an XDs, just less capacity and harder to be accurate if you aren't going to conceal.

I tried glocks, not a fan myself. They feel like a brick in my hand and sorry glock lovers but I think they are ugly. Looks are obviously down on the totem pole of priority, but it is still a small consideration. Mostly I hate the feel of a glock in my hand so they are not for me. Good guns none the less. The Springfield feels great in my hand, has great features, shoots awesome and is just a much better gun IMO.

Basically this is like trying to decide between a Ford and a Dodge pickup, everyone has strong opinions and you have to figure out which is best for you. Find an indoor range that has rental guns, try a glock, a Springfield, an M&P, etc. See what fits you best.

I've never thought the Glock was ugly. Some do. Not me.

since the plastic gun guys have had their say... can't blame em, great guns but I'm a 1911 metal head.
In terms of magazines, I'm of the opinion you can never have enough. I try and grab another 5-10 a year either from Wilson Combat or Chip McCormick for my pistols.

Wilson Combat CQB .45

Nighthawk Custom GRP .45

Springfield Armory TRG .45

Springfield Armory A1-Loaded .45

You are the second person to recommend picking up at least 5 extra mags. Why so many extras?

Laws change and Glock mags are the cheapest in the industry.

There is no reason not to stock up.

Make sure you get GLOCK FACTORY mags and they are new and fit the ambi models.

Pick up some 33 rounders too, outstanding value (they were made for the Glock 18 - full auto version of the 17)

Exactly- get em while you can. And as GlockMan said, get factory/OE Glock mags only.
Magazines are considered wear items. If you damage the magazine, you toss it out. This is why you need to always have extras for the future.

IF SHTF you can't call a time out to reload your magazine.
I have 5 for each pistol that I use at the range, another 10 each at home in the bug-out bag, then I have the rest placed around the house.

Recommendations for a casual shooter

New question: what's the most painless and legal way to bring the gun out of state to my parents house? I'm not driving so it has to fly with me or be shipped. I don't want anyone getting bent out of shape at the airport when I declare it, nor do I want a hassle at the FedEx counter.

Call your airline and ask.

Generally...

Unload it, pull your empty mag out, put your ammo in its orginal box, put it all in a TSA approved locked case by itself, take it to the check in counter, claim it.

VERIFY WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSE DO BEFORE GOING TO THE AIRPORT!

PS - Pelican makes fantastic cases.

-----------------

"Travelers may only transport UNLOADED firearms in a locked, hard-sided container or as checked baggage. All firearms, ammunition and firearm parts, including firearm frames and receivers, are prohibited in carry-on baggage.

Realistic replicas of firearms are also prohibited in carry-on bags and must be packed in checked baggage. Rifle scopes are permitted in carry-on and checked bags.

Gun in hard case.In addition to TSA security rules on transporting firearms, airlines, as well as state, local and international governments have additional rules that may vary by location. Please check with your airline and with states and cities you will be traveling into and out of to become familiar with their requirements and ensure you are compliant with their laws."

Look up the laws of PA, I think you are pretty safe except for Philadelphia?

And don't use TSA locks.
