This will probably fall on deaf ears, but I'll say it anyway. I'm glad I'm using my stock air filter housing. A possible 1-4 HP increase is negligible. Knowing for certain that your cylinders are protected from dirt is priceless peace of mind.

I installed a long-tube CAI on my supercharged E36 M3. Being so close to the ground, it was vulnerable to water and additional dirt and gunk. Also, it was difficult to remove and clean. For California BMW owners, it telegraphs to the smog test guy that you are not stock.

There are different opinions on the effectiveness of oil/gauze filters and the horsepower they free. Race cars will run an open intake because they rebuild their engines frequently. I want mine to last 250k miles, so I use the proven means of filtering air.
