Lol..... I feel a thread coming on in about a month or so with the title, "son crashed car fix or part out?"

No offence but I'm an 18 year old kid with a 330ci and first started with a Maxima. Your kids going to do dumb stuff with the car and drive it obnoxiously fast. I drove my Maxima like a moron, and let's just say I'm glad I got my BMW and at least had a bit of driving experience because I still drove like a moron for the first while.

He just will, especially with the move over sticker and the m3 bumper. Please just trust me on this one. Keep the car but please buy him a cheap car for $500 and make him drive it for a month or so, teach him how to work on the car, but him a cooling refresh kit, an oil change kit, and maybe a VCG on the side and work with him changing the stuff. It will teach him appreciation and respect.

You sound like a know it all 18 year old...

I got my car 6 years ago as my first car when I was 15...it was supercharged. I didn't crash it and I still drive it every day. It's a 2000 328ci...not a Ferrari. It's slow and hardly worth much (no offense to the owner) but now a days E46's are excellent starter cars for new drivers.

Probably just an add on. The wheels are stock. The front bumper is aftermarket. The mirrors are ac reps. And it's a little too low.

No I'm not saying I know it all, I'm just telling him how I was when I was 16 and a lot of kids I know a lot of kids who acted similar to myself. I never said sell the car, I said teach him some respect and appreciation into the car and make him have something invested into the car. A little appreciation and respect goes a long way, just because it is a "slow" car by today's standard doesn't mean it doesn't have very good handling capabilities and you can still drive like a bat out of hell in it.

Great advice there pal! Sounds like you've got your life on the right path!

I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just heeding him advice from a first hand perspective. You said it yourself, young people drive like morons, that was my only point. /argument

When I was 14 my folks bought me my 330i, which was my dad's commuter for a bit. It is my first car and has lasted all these years without me crashing it (knock on wood). Hell, I was ocd about driving the speed limit till about 2 years ago.lol. Point being, I'm sure the guy sees that his son is mature enough to handle such a beautiful ride.

I mean I'm just being honest. And I only come out on warm summer nights. Don't play in traffic at least I'm respectful.

Ok right on good to know! Like I said before by no means am I saying don't do it, just give him a good talking to when he gets it and try and keep a kid on it if you can. Just some first hand experience I thought I would share with you.

Very nice make sure you tell him if it's a manual no matter how cool it sounds to dump the clutch it's not worth it. Also ecs tunning pelican parts and fcp have very affordable prices for part's.

its all depends on ur kid..if he is such a "car guy" and really want to take a good car of the car, it'll be long last...

i'm still 19, just moved from indonesia to US 1,5 years ago. busting my ass working to get my 01 325ci. i do take care of my car. and you all need to remember, taking a good care of a car is not just "put a new wheels and do a lot of modification".. owning an e46 made me reallize how to maintenance a car..

anyway, congratulations for being such a cool dad!!

here is my 01 325ci Click image for larger version

Based on miles issues I've experienced are new axles control arms guibo center support bearing control arm bushings thermostat. It was under 1000 to fix all that and mine has 105k miles

Should do a cooling system refresh from ecs too, it's like $300 and definitely gives you peace of mind!
