I would start off with basics first in order to build a stronger core before jumping into Olympic lifts.

And just remember that getting stronger and looking better ie: losing weight are almost impossible to do at the same time, if you want to get stronger you should bulk and then cut. Start a progress thread you will get tons of good info on here.

Yes, absolutely. The olympic lifts are awesome.

I'd jump right in. Biggest training regret not going right in.

Definitely. You'll be agile, fast, powerful, which requires a lot of flexibility and mobility. I didn't know that oly lifters came in second with regards to flexibility after gymnasts. Try overhead squatting. Most people can't, especially people who are doing powerlifts and other basic bb lifts. Some buffed up gym bros can't even get their hands over their heads.

I am starting with Greg Everett's starter oly program with my cut in a month. Going back to being human, and reclaiming my mobility.

Completely agreed. Basic lifts takes away a lot from your mobility and flexibility.

I'm that guy that can't overhead squat. I should take video. I'll fall right the hell over.

That makes two of us, I tend to go forward all the time. I started doing Kelly Starret's shoulder and thoracic spine mobility wods. I feel like I am improving, but I also have problems with my ankles-knees. I can't squat and sit on my calves and keep that position for long (falling backwards this time).

Try it, depending on what you've been doing your entire life, it may not be that bad. As far as I'm concerned, sitting behind a computer for the last 15 years doesn't help.

To be honest I could probably do very light weight, but just from experience of holding the bar over my head on OHP on the last rep and now doing overhead shrugs, I know I don't have the balance to do any significant weight on OH squats.

I think my max overhead squat was 95lbs lol, I'll see if I can do some tonight at the gym.

It doesn't have anything to do with the amount of weight. OHP is quite different than OHS. You can try this now: stand up, cross your thumbs overhead with palms facing the ceiling, fully extend elbows, and try to squat down. If you are not tripping forward, that's a good sign.

edit: watch the ankles, too. Heels should not come off the ground. Center of weight should be over the heels.

I'll try to learn the basics though I'm unable to completely lock out my right arm so that might put a quick halt on progress. Oh and pesky thing about dropping metal plates at my gym

Use some PVC or broomstick to start. You need to be comfortable with the positioning before trying a bb

Here's a video that should open up a few things and prepare you for OHS:
