Which country and states has the least vehicle regulation/laws in general?

Just curious because I can't stand the car regulation here in the states. I know Japan and the UK aren't too bad with emissions compared to the US. The US and "car safety" is really annoying as well. We lost many good cars that could have been road legal here but with those laws, they are not.

At least in Canada you can import cars after 15 years.

So how about states? It's been pretty easy to pass you car through inspection in NJ. It's surprising because they will pass you with a cracked windshield. Just stupid emissions will be a headache for me.

Some states have vehicle inspection at all, and registration for two years at a time.

No safety or emissions inspections here in FL.

Re: Which country and states has the least vehicle regulation/laws in general?

I think the southern states are pretty relaxed, but Illinois is a joke. I deleted all my emissions equipment and still passed with flying colors. They only test 96 and above which is pointless. Just to save money they test obd2 cars only.

Jersey is a joke when it comes to inspection now a days. It actually makes the roads more dangerous for everyone else.

It is legal for people to have bald tires, no stopping ability, cracked windshields. I wonder how the rate of accidents has been affected over the last few years before vs after the budget cuts.

Just wish they would allow front windows to have tint, It gets hot here in the summer too!

Are you crazy? The US has much slacker restrictions than Europe or Japan, especially in the southern states. Here in GA all I have to do is pass a yearly OBDII emissions test. The operator just plugs it in and runs it on a computer, he doesn't even bother visually inspecting the car for anything (missing cat, bald tires, etc)

Same in Illinois A guy I meet at a race shop said he had a car s2k running e85, meth, straight open headers and still passed. He said the guy looked like he was about to cry from the fumes building up.

i mean like for the car to make in into the country. like how the e46 m3 has the cats in the headers and everyone else has them in section 1

Depends on what part of what State. In Nashville and the surrounding counties, you do have emissions testing, ALDL connection test and tailpipe sniff. Fuel cap test and catalytic converter visual inspection.

I'm under the impression that Jersey is rather strict. They fail for cracked windshields and they have a camera that looks at the underside and we have emissions. In Michigan, there is no inspection at all, just registration stickers.

they use to fail for crack windshields but not no more. That really hurt the auto-glass industry. I just inspected my Probe GT last week and they looked under it with a mirror so that is true lol. Last time I inspected my M3 they tested the turn signals, high beams and horn as well.

They will let you have a cracked windshield but meanwhile my perfectly legal car can't pass inspection because they want me to cut a whole in my tint on the windshield so can they "Properly display the sticker"

I tipped the guy to let me put it on myself. SMH

What exactly are they looking for under the car? If you have headers and o2 simulators that can't be easily seen but I guess straight pipes are what they are looking for? They aren't exactly difficult to hear.

Catalytic Converter I suppose. Not sure if it was because my ford probe is 20 years old or because the car is OBD I. I think they had to look under the with a mirror when I took the Jaguar Xk through as well. It seems stupid because like you said, cats on BMWs are hard to see.

edit: lol whenever I see a riced out honda pulled over, there are usually cops mirrors looking under it for illegal mods. I always assumed that cops don't care if you have no cats that it is a federal thing. or maybe they were looking for a muffler
