2004-2006 e46 verts

I am considering buying an '04-'06 convertible and want to know if there are any major differences in them or should I look for the best available with the lowest milage. Thanks

05 and 06 had bluetooth standard, 04 did not. To add bluetooth to an 04 you have to buy a newer TCU unit.

There are the obvious mechanical and aesthetic differences as you work your way up the food chain from 325 to 330 to M3, and a number of other nuances, but that wiki has it covered. Mileage, condition and maintenance history would be my big 3 determining factors.

The hydraulics for the convertible top changed between 03-04, so all 04-06s should be similar.

For what it's worth, if I could do it again, I would've waited to find a 330 in lieu of the 325; it's not the quickest car in the world.

My Ride: IR M3 Vert.
The vert weights like 350 lbs more than a coupe. Believe me, u don't want anything less than a 3.0 motor. And even then, I wouldn't be happy.

The things that sold me on the 04+ verts were:

- front grill is MUCH better on the 04+ verts than previous models
- Sport suspension package (ZSP) had better looking wheels (style 119) for the 325Cic than previous models. That alone makes a huge difference
- LED taillights look much better
- Slightly redesigned HVAC control (but this is subtle and you appreciate it after the fact). I didn't know this until after I bought the car.
- Rain sensing wipers. Not sure off hand when they came into existence but I love this feature

Agree that it would be nice to have a 330. The 325 is a "boulevard cruiser" but I often wish I had the ZHP horsepower.

Last thing is: YOU MUST GET A WIND DEFLECTOR! It's the best mod you can ever do for the convertible!

I have an 04 330CI Vert, European spec, RHD, Individual Model. Came with NAV, HK Sound System, Bluetooth, M Sport Package. I also installed a DICE ipod unit.
Agree with all of the above and as Petemo94 says, the wind deflector is a must if you want to drive with the top down at more than 40mph and hear the sound system! Came with 18" style 135 wheels (225 x 40 front and 255 x 35 rear) They ride well and look great but beware of "pot holes" in the road! The rims can crack.
The key point is to find one with full service history and check out all the replaced parts. A 2004 car should have had a major cooling system overhaul regardless of mileage and maybe CAB's replaced. Check out the action of the vert top, they can be expensive to fix. Check for oil leaks around the cylinder head and underneath on the plastic tray (cover) , valve cover gaskets and oil filter housing gaskets are prone to fail on 8 - 10 year old engines. Apart from that, a great car that is fun to drive top down or up! Good luck!

Get an m3. Vert m3 is less than 0.5 sec slower the coupe.

Well an M3 would be great but I would lose my drivers licence 'cos I would be caught every day in one of the many speed cameras we have here in Sydney!!! My average speed around Sydney is 34kph (about 22 mph) 'cos of all the traffic density and crappy roads!!

Low miles don't really mean anything. When I bought mine, it had 32k on it and it was in pretty bad condition. I'd take a 60,000 mile car that has been properly serviced over a 25,000 mile car that has a sketchy history. Then again I'm talking from the perspective of buying an M3. People really beat on them so watch out.

My '03 has Bluetooth, same as my 06.

If anyone is looking for a 2005 e46 vert W/comp package SMG Silver/black int w/60,000 miles. Never raced or beat the crap out of my car or accidents. Purchased it in 2006 w/7500 miles. All services performed. Just replaced calipers, rotors, brakes on front in July 2014, new tires all the way around in December 2013. I even have the hard top. Interior in excellent condition.

'06 E46 did NOT come standard with bluetooth. I'm saying this because my CPO '06 didn't have it so guessing it wasn't standard.

I love my vert. No way would I ever buy a 325, way too slow.

I have a 330 with a 6-speed, sport package, Bluetooth/assist, adaptive xenon headlights, ski bag, and the factory hardtop.
