Inspection was done about 2 years ago. No indicator lights, when it turns off you just see the dash lights then the car starts normal again when I try to start it up. Its not SMG, I just replaced the pump a year ago. I havent read the codes yet, im taking it in this weekend to get it checked out.

Camshaft position sensors (aka rpm sensors )don't always throw codes ...
But that is most likely the issue

I'm just asking if it's an smg car. They occasionally like to stall when they come to stops just like human error. If it drives like normal besides that, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Unless it's more often than occasional like you stated.

Vanos really? Can you state the reason? Or are you just throwing that out there?

If it happens to do this more reliably when, say, you're braking harder at a stop...being in third moving at pace, braking harder and dropping into neutral (in a manual), then consider ICV. Did this for months in my non-M.

Cleaned the hell out of ICV...also removed and clean TB (though you'd have 6 to clean)...replaced intake boots while there anyway.

But, get your codes read...no reason to suspect most sensors unless you're seeing a code for them. When you get codes (for free at Autozone) translate them into English, search thread titles for them here, then write back and someone will be able to point you in some plausible direction.

Sorry. I assumed you knew what the vanos was,so I thought no explanation would be needed once stating that could be the problem. But the vanos affects emission, torque, idle, and fuel economy. Couldn't really find the words myself to explain it in a way that could be understood,so I pulled this out of a book : "Overall loss of torque and power, particularly in the lower RPM range, < 3k. Bogging then surging at 3k RPM. Uneven power distribution and RPM transition. Engine hesitations in the lower RPM range, < 3k. Louder idle and intermittent idle RPM hiccups. Difficult takeoffs. Loss of power and bogging when AC on. Increased fuel consumption. Vanos fault codes.
Double vanos cars with the M52TU engine (98/99-00) experience cold weather cold start idle jolts and possible stall."
Hope this helps

Does your idle drop when coming to a stop? and sometimes this leads to a stall? If so search for "idle drop", the issue has been discussed at length, unfortunately there is no definitive solution.

I will take note of that next time I drive. I have not checked. But I will now. Thank you Taylor192. Im getting the car checked this Saturday to run the codes to see if anything comes up and will share here.

P0128 was the code. Engine temperature sensor. It's odd though, that would make my car stall at a complete stop. :/

I have been braking hard many times and now it doesnt stall. So..idk..I guess I have to wait till it drops another code or something else. Having read into the vanos I def want to do the vano kit and replace the seals.

I'll bet anything that it is the vanos. Another thing, did you reset the diagnostics then run it again? I say it was a fault code.
