we have the gen before the one you posted. it hasn't been a "forget about it" reliable car. but it hasn't been bad at all. a very very smooth highway cruiser for sure.

the only thing it doesn't really have going for it is gas mileage.

if it were my money i'd find a gs400/450 with the v8. so sexyyyy

You complain about the gas mileage yet you suggest he get the model with even worse gas mileage? Go big or go home? lol

i didn't complain about the gas mileage. and would buy one despite that.
i just mentioned that gas mileage was not a strong suit for the gs. not even in the v6

The exhaust on the Type S is far more "sport" so if you get on it, you can hear a nice note coming from the back but it's fairly quiet while cruising. The ELS sound system helps to get rid of whatever road noise is left. Suspension will be firmer than the Lexus but it's going to be a lot more responsive and easy to toss around. It's by no means uncomfortable or jarring though and the big brakes stop the car very well, even better than the E46 330 brakes.

Some cars, varies from car to car, had some rattles but most if not all can be fixed with 5 minutes of your time and some felt tape. My car in particular doesn't have any rattles or anything. There's certainly a large quality difference between the Acura and the Honda, it's very apparent especially in the quality of the leather on the seats and other interior bits.

Like I said, the Type S is totally worth it but I wouldn't bother with the normal base model. Type S models are fully loaded with everything except parking sensors, they only options were MT or AT and if you want the summer tires or not.

Edit: Sorry I have a 2008 automatic Type S. No issues with the Type S transmission though, 2007+ TL's all had upgraded transmissions (from the RL) from the earlier time bombs that came standard on V6 Hondas. Type S has an even more robust one if I remember correctly...
thanks for your input, definitely convinced me to try test driving one. challenge is finding a dealer with one on it's lot.

My friend has a Silver GS350 with G spider wheels and it looks great.

Similar to this:

Car is smooth but kinda drives heavy, which is expected. Interior is nice, roomy and very comfortable.

Always mire'd the GS especially this model.

I would do some research on RELIABILITY for the model (specifically the years you're looking into), and def do the ISF wheels

Yes, finding one is the hardest part. There are a few around here but that's kind of a trip for you... I was lucky to find a one owner car with every service record including wiper blades from a private seller, bought it within a few days of it hitting the market.

I will say this though, don't base your opinion on one car. The first type S I drove was a gigantic pile of sh!t, the owner didn't care for it at all and it showed. Second one I drove changed my mind completely.

most of the bad reports and issues were attributed to the AWD model and the run-flat's which I'd immediately change.

I did. The driving dynamics were great, handling was very impressive. Everything else fell a little short for me. Interior felt cheap, seats weren't too comfortable. I really wanted to like the car too.

part of the challenge in my case is that I put a lot of trust in my cousin to find me the best car possibly from dealer auction. I don't have the luxury to really decide what I get to buy, just give him the order and he's off. hasn't done me wrong in the last two cars I got with him.

saw that thing on club lexus, pretty gorgeous. I'd do a few cosmetic things but nothing to that extent.
