Integrated Steering Wheel controls for ANY phone - NO HU Required

With the following components:

http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Bee-...xbee+bluetooth
http://fazjaxton.net/products/fazcan/main.html
http://www.amazon.com/SainSmart-Blue...+uno+bluetooth

We should be able to receive all CAN bus codes from the steering wheel, and trigger standard program responses to any AVRCP ready or bluetooth keyboard compatible phone.

Basically it would bridge the controls from the steering wheel and tell the phone how to volume up, down and next track, last track, etc. with some programming skill. You can even bridge the call buttons and translate the press-and-hold call button to trigger Siri or similar Android voice recognition.

It is also possible to remove any of the other stock stereo components and control an Android tablet or phone in it's place with an aux input. I've tested and verified that the steering wheel controls still send code to the CAN bus without any of the stock radio components, as the steering wheel buttons function as a completely separate entity. This can be installed in any CAN bus compatible car with only THREE or FOUR WIRES, and be located anywhere in the car so long as you can get bluetooth signal, CAN bus, and +12v to it. Theoretically, we should be able to make this work for less than $100.

Anyone have the programming skill to make this happen? I can do minor things with Arduino, but I'm no skilled expert. The Arduino needs to recognize the various HEX codes from the wheel, and trigger the bluetooth AVRCP or keyboard command to the paired device.

I also want to integrate this code to be able to control volume through rotary input:

This is important for passengers wanting to lower the volume, and leaves a natural stock radio feel while operating phone or tablet without a head unit.

The leftside buttons on the wheel are on the Ibus and are not Can bus at all (in the E46). you will need an ibus interface. The ibus signals are simlar to linbus. I'm using a MCP2025 linbus chip to interface with the bus. But could also use transistors or optocouplers with some resistors. I've done both.

The right side (cruise) are on their direct to the cruise wire. But yes you can catch the signals by monitoring the ibus and then do whatever you want. I've made my own Ipod controller but could easily do something else.
