Some people aren't really understanding the point of this thread.

Also, I'm surprised no one has thrown out the Bugatti Veyron so I'll do that now.

The Subaru XT was well ahead of its time in terms of design and features.

the NSX was certainly not.

But the Corvette had leaf springs.....clearly ahead of its time since nothing else at the time was using it.

It also had a V8 engine and seats, clearly nothing else at the time or before it used those either...

I'll also throw out the Pagani Huyara (or however you spell it)

- First road car with real active aerodynamics in the front and back.
- First car with a primarily carbon/plastic/metal composite body structure.

There is no explicit definition of a phrase like "ahead of its time" and the OP did not provide an operational definition. That's why you see such widely varying answers.

Running with your own definition gives context to your answer (opinion), but does not invalidate others.

Are we talking about the car produced in 2012?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagani_Huayra

In 1991 the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 had active aero front and back

I stand corrected, comment still stands because of the car's structure though.

I'm very happy for you that this was your favorite car since you were 6, however how was it ahead of its time? This is a race car made for the road in order to be in compliance with FIA GT requirements... sooooo ?
