Our power went out for 3 weeks one time. We used a generator and life was pretty much the same.

If power and gas were out... we're hosed.

I have my serious doubts regarding AK47 shells, but I suppose the writer could have confused 7.62x39 with 7.62x51/.308...
Why?

Really only a dozen at a time is all that's needed to start the downward spiral, chaos and unrecoverable unwinding of society

Imagine 4-5 "Boston marathons" at once

Boston seemed to recover. It also had no effect outside of a relatively small geographical area. I was not impacted by the Boston Bombings. It did not threaten the existence of the US. Were the economic damages caused by Boston on a grand scale? What makes you think 4 or 5 would cripple the US?

Boston killed 3 individuals and the physical damage was confined to the blast location. As tragic as the bombings were they never had the potential to paralyze the United States. Even if you multiple by 5 you arrive at 15 deaths spread over a wide geographic area. More were killed in an elementary school and the US is still here.

The only thing that will stop a power outage is a good guy with a gun.

A car bomb outside the NYSE or Chicago Merc would rattle some nerves.

A car bomb is vastly different from a pressure cooker bomb in both devastation, materials, logistics, required skill set, support structure, etc. More damage = increased sophistication = increased chance of failure. It is not something someone learns flipping through the pages of an Inspire magazine.

In this thread, JJ envisions doomsday scenarios in hopes of being proven right and can therefore justify the existence of all his guns, ammunition, food and water supplies, bomb shelter, tin foil, and living in his mom's basement while playing countless hours of Call of Duty Black Ops and salivating at the chance to fire one of his guns on a would-be intruder.
