Would you do this trade?

My 2005 330ci with 30,200 miles (great condition) +$24,500 against a 2011 335i convertible with 27K miles and 18 months left on manufacturer's warranty. All in all, the 335i packages/options are OK with me - lacks navigation but has parking sensors, and I like my Garmin which has lifetime updates and traffic. I've got to decide within 48 hrs....

Will you get $24,500 worth of satisfaction out of the newer car? What will each be worth 5 to 10 years from now with equal miles added? Do you prefer the soft top or the hardtop? In Florida with the top down much of the time, or opportunity to do so, can you give up the extra space in the truck with hardtop down? Garage to park it in or will it sit outside? Which one really turns your crank? Lots of decisions. My choice would be the 05 but I like the e46 style better and I would prefer having the extra money. Good luck which ever way you go.

Yes, them's the questions...... I really like my 05, but 9+ years of ownership makes one want to wander, and in the direction of more comfort. If given a choice, I would prefer the hard-top as a convertible - more durable and - in a pinch - can go through a car wash. I don't like the look of the 4 series (the front....), but am still OK with the 2011/2012s. One of the more beautiful fronts, of course, is the 05.....
Tks. for your comments. I posted the issue really to see whether I got a strong response in favour or against the E93 as a car in its own right.

What's the price of the 2011 without the trade-in? Your 2005 should sell easily with such low mileage. I understand the desire to move up the chain, but don't let emotions cloud you decision when it comes to money. $24 500 + your car seems like a lot for the 2011.

I'd say run KBB on "trade in" values for both cars. If difference is approx. $24,500 then at least the deal is balanced. Afterwards, it's your call whether you want to actually do the deal.

$24.5K = $22K + taxes/registration etc.... It's in the ballpark. Offer/ask spread etc... I had heard that the 335i had HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) failures in the earlier models, but that should have been resolved by 2011. [the N54 motor is direct injection, and also had twin turbo, converted to a single double scroll turbo in 2011 model]. Otherwise, haven't heard anything negative, except for the runflat tires, which I cringe at having. ..

Actually, I found another E93 somewhat comparable with 10K more miles and that I could get at $3K less - but color was baby blue metallic. I nearly bought it, then just decided that I wanted a color like my current 330ci - i.e. a medium gray metallic or silver. So I passed, and am looking for the right car. But each time I drive in the 330 (this is convertible-time in FL!) I have remorse from what I may do. Short answer - I didn't do the trade. But I am faithful until I will be unfaithful.....
Anyway, tks to all for comments.
I don't like the front of the new 4 series convertible, so - if I am to switch for a low-mileage 2011 or 2012 - I'll be doing it over the coming year, as they come to market out of leases. [Unfortunately, most seem to be 328s, i.e. 4-cyl. and I find the BMW 6-cyl. to be one the best, if not the best, available in the world, so I'll stick with the 335i, of which there are fewer available.] Since I 'store' the convertible from June to Oct./Nov., next winter seems like the sweet spot. In the event, I'll bid all of you guys a fond and sad farewell.....

I would do the trade. The convertible is sexy IMHO.

Well, I pulled the trigger today - a different (2011) E93 - 20K miles - gray on gray, premium + convenience + cold weather + HK + pking sensors etc.. packages (no nav., which I don't care about, and not the Sport package, which I also don't care about). $21K difference + taxes, reg. & title, and some transport, yet unknown. I'm happy. I'll be going to carmax to renew their offer on my 2005 330ci....
Again - tks to all!
