22-23 mpg based off calculated fill-ups, compares to 24-26 in the Summer. Not bad this year considering the amount of snow we've had. Plenty of drifting snow on the open roads out by where I work.

2000 328Ci sport package, Dinan chip and 3.38 rear end, stick shift, recent complete intake side overhaul. Conti-DWS staggered in the Summer, Blizzak WS-70 square 225 in the Winter.

My commute is about 20 miles, half semi-trafficky suburbia, half country roads. No highway, speed limits range from 35 to 55 mph.

I'm getting 18 mpg! 2004 330ci vert. City and highway pretty much 50/50 Dang I suck. Any tips on better gas mileage? I only use shell gas and highest octane also regulary use gas conditioners like lucas.

All year no matter the weather I usually don't have higher than 17 it almost always says 15.1??? I do about 7 mi to and from work city and highway speed up to about 60 about 20 min commute with low traffic but traffic makes it about 40-50 mins sometimes longer. Wish I could do good speed smooth sailing for hours just to up the mpgs without resetting it all the time...

Although I'm driving my VW Passat TDI most days, (btw i average 43.2 on winter blend diesel with it) I take the Bimmer on my 85 mile one way commute about once every two weeks, and on date nights with my bride. Roads on my commute are 4 lane rural expressway with my average speed being about 63 through the commute. Mileage has dropped slightly, but still averaged 26.8 (hand calc) on the last tank. OBV screen indicated 27.2. Not too bad considering the below average temps here in MN (and across the snow belt for that matter) this winter.

OP, how's yours looking?

I guess I should actually post what I used to get haha.

Summer: 24-26 city, 31-34 hwy (sometimes higher)
Winter: 22-24 city, 29-33 hwy

By city I mean commuting to work which for me is all inner city roads and highway is set cruise at 72-77mph depending on speed limit and letting the car do its thing.

I'm getting around 20mpg 21 on a good week. My car idles for an average 15 min a day with the bitter cold we have been having. 93 or 94 octane ALWAYS In the summer I'm more like 23-25 even with 18 inch heavy wheels.

You know that's about what I got on my last fill up too. It really sucked and was about $100 to fill my tank up.

21+ MPG in real COLD dancing from -0 to 30F for months. Oh yeah, let's be honest, that's with "bad" warm-up, long-idle habits. Warning: Don't reply how the manual recommends a short warm-up period. I don't care, it's not drivable as a frost ball. I'm guessing we all peek at the display to report this? How accurate is that thing? I'm too lazy to do the math for comparison.

Wait, what car would you be referring to? I thought you sold your E46?

I drove my 1998 5.4L Ford Expedition for a week or two after I sold the E46 and before I bought the TL. Been driving it the past week or so because of the weather. Thing is a tank in the snow but boy can it chug down 27 gallons of fuel...guess it's not easy moving around ~7200lbs of steel.

A lot of factors come into play with Winter Gas Mileage! First, the area of the country and how severe the cold weather has been. Next, the grade and quality of the oil used. Still another factor, is the car kept in a garage overnight (heated or unheated) or outside all the time. Is the car started and left to "warm up" for a few minutes before driving? The mileage driven and if the car is/has been at normal operating temperature for most of the drive or not. In the long run, does it really matter that Winter gas mileage is a bit less than Spring, Summer and Fall gas mileage? Seems to me that one main reason people purchased the xi to begin with was for better Winter usage over a non-xi BMW (not everyone can drive a RWD car effectively in snow and ice and the xi helps give that confidence that you'll make it). Even the Spring, Summer and Fall gas mileage is less than the non-xi counterparts. The gas mileage in both my xi's is a bit lower this Winter (definitely had a much harder Winter here this year than in the last 7 or 8) and down a bit more in my automatic than in the manual, but it doesn't mater, its part of the price of xi ownership.
