Critique my SoCal car enthusiast forum

Hey guys,

Some of you may or may not know that I run a car enthusiast forum for the SoCal region. The forum focal point are car enthusiast events (group drives, track events, go-karting, etc). All of the members have either attended events or shown interest in it.

It all started out as a hobby and for the most part still is and is part of the reason why it looks basic however it costs next to nothing to run it the way it is.

The URL is www.eurotopian.com and you also have to register to view some of the other sub-forums which are only accessible to members.

Any feedback both good/bad are welcomed.

P.S. here are a few pics/video of our group drives from 2013:

Slow response times...I almosted exited when hitting the main URL since it took longer than 3 seconds. If I were in the target market, I probably wouldn't use a site that was so sluggish.

So I just did a benchtest and you can see the comparison between E46Fanatics.com and Eurotopian.com and I definitely need a faster response time.

How would I go about doing this? I host through HostGator, is it a problem on their end of perhaps the forum software?

Check the "First View" timing...yours is high, but looks ok once the page has been cached (the "repeat view"). Both timings are higher than e46...unless I'm reading it wrong for some reason.

One of the teams I manage does performance testing and I used to run that team at a detailed level. We're using pretty high power tools though.

Edit: Under Full Load, your site looks good....but I'd be wary of what they mean by that. It might be based on numbers of registered users....a freeware isn't going to be a good idea of real load testing though. You need real traffic / user patterns in order to determine what kind of load tests make sense and are realistic.

How did you know under full load it looks good? The test you ran is from a single client. What other tools do you use for performance testing?

Ahh, I misread the report he posted. I thought it said Full Load (which made me wonder how the heck they ran that and what assumptions were made).....it said Fully Loaded though, meaning the entire page loaded.

At work we use HP Performance Center, Load Runner, VUGen, JMeter, JProfiler, Wily Introscope, Lisa for simulation, etc etc.

There are some others, but those are the bulk of what we use day in and day out.

So apparently Proboards is inherently slowly reading some of the google searches I've seen. For the time being this basic site is serving its purpose and if all goes well in a couple years I'll probably convert it to VBulletin
