Wapner,

Check this link out: http://www.bimmernav.com/BMW_E46_Blu...tructions.html
Half way down, looks like your harness. Looks like you need the pairing button.
Also, are you SURE, you have the ULF module in the trunk?

I think that's it, it has your pass key on it.
EDIT: Look at the end of the cable you pulled out of the cup holders. Is there a button on it?(I don't think so, but hard to tell from your picture)

No, no button.

I read a post on another site that someone succesfully jumped #1 & #17 with a paperclip and it worked for them. I just tried, but still wont say anything but "no #'s stored"

Looking briefly for this switch, this might be like finding a needle in a haystack at first glance.

First, try and pair the phone.
Have phone on, Bluetooth on and discoverable.
1) Hold pairing button, in your case JUMP with a paperclip(I have no idea if this is correct).
2) Turn key to position TWO, when you see the radio says BT PAIRING, release button(in your case remove clip)
3)On your phone, you should see the BMW ULF pop up.
4) Select BMW ULF. Enter password KEY.
5) It should pair.
I have an Android phone, so this is how I do it.
If your contacts don't transfer over, try this.
Go to contacts.
Select all
Select Option to send all via Bluetooth.
Send to BMW ULF.

This is all from memory, but this should work.
GOOD LUCK!

It will show as BMW#####. Then select BMW##### and key in the PK code. The phone will then communicate with the vehicle for several minutes while your phonebook "loads."

Good luck!
This is what i did with mine. I think his issue may also be that he is using an iphone. Borrow and android from someome and do this method. CAR IN ACCESSORY POSITION NOT ON. see if it works w android.

Appreciate the further help guys.

Just an update. I tried using a jumper wire as switch, and followed Sandmans instructions, still no go.
Astheros, yeah, I already tried several other phones, ironically my son has an android, still nothing.

The problem now I'm thinking as other suggested is to get the Navcoder, and make sure this thing is somehow activated. That damn 08/2004 date leads me to believe they knew what equipment to put in it, but maybe the programming department just didnt get the memo yet at the factory, at least thats all I can think of at this point. The screen just never says anything besides that "no #'s stored" display. Have never seen any other message come up. Have tried unhooking battery for over an hour in an effort to reboot it possibly, still nothing.

So, that said, I'll order the linking device needed for Navcoder, and try that when it gets here. Other than that I'm just stumped on this thing, which stinks, cause I'm the mindeset type that wakes up in the middle of the night to try things I may have missed, etc. and this one has me completely baffled.

You are doing the same thing I did 3 years ago. Your car is one month too old. Just like mine. Either you need a newer TCU, or go aftermarket. Neither has been worth it to me. I just use a car dock with aux input.

Are you indeed a 08/2004 born? If so, I appreciate that, and will give up on this, as I have found now 5 dead end posts at various sites that were having same issue, and just died trying to solve.

Thanks!!!

Yep 08/2004 build. I have done s lot of research, and like you, all dead ends. I even talked to BMW NA to get a definitive answer. Sadly 05 xi's ended production just before updating the TCU to ones that actually worked.

Thanks for that reply! I wonder if it can be updated through navcoder, or I'll just start lookin for a used later make TCU I guess.

How frustrating it says BT, and has PK#code on it. That was like water totrture.

I did this with my iPhone 4 and it finally connected on the third or fourth try. I don't think it's his phone causing the problem; just a finicky system.

OK, I'm conceding that this 08/2004 will not ever work.
Next question, I located a great deal on on from a 2007 E61 as seen in this photo below. Does anyone know if this would be a true plug and play swap out if I did purchase it, and replaced? Thank you again. I cant return it if I buy it, so figured I'd double check. Connections seem to be identicle.

I don't see a pass key, so if the aren't providing one, that's an issue.

Good catch Sandman, i noticed that to, but had read the newer ones didnt need a "specific" passcode, i.e. you can enter 0000, or 1234, and just enter same on phone, and it syns. That assumed, I'm just wondering if it will be compatable with all the other equipment in my car.

I stand corrected. Thanks for that. I do remember that 09/04 was the first month that Bluetooth worked.

Last question I PROMISE on this seemingly futile attempt to make this happen. Shouldnt this purple antenna wire be connected to a bluetooth antenna?

I seem to recall seeing some antenna mounted under rear ashtray, and this cable is that exact length, but nothing is mounted under there. My car has the shark fin, but my "guess" is this may be the missing link as in the shark fin does not have BT antenna in it. So I was gonna pick up this

pop it under ashtray, and try jumpin again.
Just drives me crazy it has everything, like box in trunk with PK#, mictophone, etc. but I'm just thinking maybe, just maybe I found the missing link of the 08/2004 E46 evolution mystery.

Wapner,

Not sure what that does? Do me a favor, take a pic. of the end of the harness where you did the paper clip trick(i want to see the part you stuck the clip into). I'm still thinking a pairing button is the answer. Also, when you lift up your trunk, do you have a button that says pre-wired for Bluetooth?
PS: Ill run outside and take a pic. of mine. Thanks!

EDIT: I have the Purple connector, it is not connected.

Try a pairing button before giving up.

That purple connector is for a drop in cradle. You have everything including the Bluetooth antenna under the rear ashtray. It bothered me too. I even went and had my Indy look at it. I have the passcode in my glove box too. That is what prompted my search.
