Sandman, yes same exact harness, sorry for image quality..

Trunk liner says on button "pre wired for cellular phone"

And like LD330XI said I have the card in glove box with matching PK# as on box in trunk, and a ohh so handy instruction sheet on how to activate.

Sandman, my phone died just before I took 2nd picture, but yes harness is identical. 18 pin holes, even faintly #'d 1-9 on top, 10-18 on bottom.

You have to try and score a pairing button, at least this is what I think. From what I can tell, they are pretty hard to come by. Try bimmernav and see if he has one around that he is willing to sell. My only other thought is to try the paper clip trick again. Maybe you were jumping it wrong.

I found one on Ebay in Germany. the whole listing was in German, but luckily pictures are universal. Was $32.04 US dollars. Probably flushed down the toilet, but I feel obligated to at least try it. I wont hold my breath for it to get here.

Haahaa, No i cant give up.

Here's the link in case anyone stumbles upon this and needs a switch, as they are near impossible to find.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/250919790199...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I will for sure post result when it gets here.

Not sure if link will reflect it, but I somehow used google translator to make some of it English. Sure, I can figure that out, but not how to pair a phone.

Hopefully this is the missing piece in your case. Just odd, you have all the parts(you have the mic, right?) and you don't have the pairing button.

Oh yeah, Mic is there. Everything is there, except the button.

Could have purchases software and an interface for the price of a pairing switch.

Sorry to say, but I really do not think the pairing switch will be the solution, however, there were a lot of small changes in the firmware of the modules.

My wife's 2006 E46 convertible has OE BMW Assist which was also supposed to have OE Bluetooth, which it does have. No pairing button on her car, goes into pairing mode automatically when car is started or ignition it turned on.

Many off to cars were shipped with the Bluetooth disabled, simple to enable in software and if the system needs a pairing button, you can put the module into pairing mode with the software. Not like you need to pair phones on a regular basis anyway.

Good luck, but you need software anyway of you plan on keeping these cars.

BMW Scanner 1.4.0 and/or NavCoder are the 2 programs that immediately come to mind. BMW Scanner 1.4.0 is a bit more versatile as you can do far more with it.

Jfoj,

I am not familiar with the software route, so I can't comment. i have a 2005 e46, came with nothing but was prewired for cell. I installed a mic, bt module and pairing button and it worked. The only thing throwing me off is that he has the mic, the BT module, but NO pairing button. He did indicate that is car is prewired for cell so hopefully this is the missing piece.

I ordered it the day you suggested it. Figured it was a must have for this car for many things other as well. Haven't received yet, but will dive into that when it comes.

Doin more reading today, I found one old post where a guy said the 08/2004 module in the E46 just flat out does not work period. They put a different one in in 09/2004 make. The as to why it has PK # on unnit and card and instructions in glove box is anybodys guess.
So, that said, I will still try when jumper gets here, and will try seein if Navcoder can open any doors, but it sounds like a dead horse.
Ultimately will buy a new TCU(used on ebay), or that unit from Enfig advetised here, GBL3BM1, looks to be the way to go.

thanks again gang for ALL the help. I really do appreciate everyones willingness to try and help me out!!

I believe there are differences here.

Your car was prewired, however, I believe the OP car came equipped with BMW assist.

BMW Assist from what I can tell uses a ULF module and not sure if there is a firmware change in later years that has auto pairing or how things work.

Most likely the folks a BimmerNav.com would know better, but not sure they like to give out free advice, they want to see expensive hardware.

jfoj,

My car also came equipped with BMW Assist, there was just no BT ULF. I wound up buying that and the pairing button from bimmernav. Hopefully, he figures it all out.

Hopefully the OP will prevail.

There are just two many variables and not enough good documentation out there on how these systems are supposed to work and what the difference between the modules are.

How would you go about coding this with PA Soft?
My mfg date is 12/03 but I have BMW Assist.
I was going to fool around with it later but the weather really sucks around here.

Well, I just hooked up my computer and checked the telephone module and "Bluetooth options" was grayed out.
Guess I don't have the factory module. Is this something I can add easily if I buy a module on ebay?
Or is it not worth it at all?

Thanks

UPDATE:

1st off thanks again for everyones help on this. The pairing switch came Saturday, I tried it, nothing. I tried pokin around in Navcoder, nothing. After messing with it for hours on Sat night I finally gave up.

Here is my advice to anyone that ever finds this thread and has a 2005 E46 with a MFR date of **08/2004** yes, your car is wired for BT phone, yes, you have the BT TCU in trunk with PK#'s on it as well. Yes, you will have the PK# on infoo card in glove box and instructions how to do it, BUT, NO your system will not work. Again my best guess is they put everything in place for the 09/2004 mandatory instal date, even the tcu box and labelled accordingly, but my guess is this particular unit even though it says it does, does not indeed have any BT capability to it, end of sstory. So stop wasting your time now, and get a later TCU. or an aftermarket system.

Which incidently is what I am now focussed on, I need the easieast way for her to still have steering wheel controls for her phone and wire in a BT phone system. Just something basic, not looking to break the bank, or cange out head unit. She has single disc business CD, and phone controls on steering wheel. Any suggestions appreciated. Dice, Parrot, new one from Enfig?

Thanks again all! I hope if someone else ever falls in thi pittfall, you find this and it saves you some time and money. 08/2004 no gots, even though it wants to act like it does.
