I got the parts for the engine but where can I get the speakers?

This is my first post on this wonderful site because I have finally bought an e46 and couldn't be happier. I got a 99 323i with 130k of it for 3 grand. It has some small wear and tear on the inside and out but over all it is very clean for the age. Thanks to this great site I will changing out the oil filter housing gasket due to a small leak. And while I'm in there I'm going to attack the vanos seals, valve cover gasket, and plugs this weekend and I can't wait to dig in. My problem is when I checked the car out I never turned on the radio.... And yes somehow every speaker is blown I'm the kind of person that needs my radio but I really don't want to spend much on it.

well hey, at least you read the "read this"! thats good. if you want the oem plug and play speakers, check out rock auto, or realoem.com. they are quite expensive given the quality, so i would recommend going aftermarket.

Thanks for the advice. Everything I've seen so far is around 700 and that is just not going to happen.

im sure there's tons of junk yard in texas...wouldn't hurt to go there and part one out of a car.

we also have a classified for interior

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=76

but if you have the money, i'd suggest upgrading to BSW speaker with subs if you're a music lover

Yeah I saw those speakers but I'm already in the dog house for spending 3k on the car so I'm going to have to wait on speakers like that. I did go to one junk yard but all the bimmers where pretty stripped out.

kinduva strange thread title when I 1st looked at it. engine parts,..then speakers. (wth? wutz the association?) anyway, then i read your post. Find a parts car & strip the sound system clean. I would suggest looking for any E46 with the HK system.

WELCOME

I recently pulled 4 of the 6.5" mid-bass and the front door tweets at a salvage yard for $30. They were in near perfect shape, very rare. I needed them for a 323i that I sold recently.

You'll just need to look at a lot of cars but with a little luck you might find them.

When you say the speakers are blown do you mean that they don't work or that the foam surrounds are gone? If the foam is rotted you can replace it cheap. There are plenty of DIY guides and YouTube vids on it.

I did some searching and this looks like it will work for the 6.5" speakers: http://www.uneeksupply.com/2-65-Inch..._p_25180.html#

I've not located a source for the mids but if I come across something I will post it.

There's an amp for the radio antenna under the trim for the "C" pillar. There are plenty of DIY guides for checking it and the antenna coax connection. Here's one: http://blog.bavauto.com/10056/bmw-po...-other-models/

If you don't mind a little DIY, search for "better than bsw"

I bought the Daytons to replace my blown woofers. I've only done the rears so far, and they sound awesome. Here is the link to my thread about it.

Anyone else think it odd that every single speaker in the car is blown?

I would bet its the amp.

He said something about "sound in can" sound. So, I'm guessing not every speaker is truly blown.

Exactly the sound produced by a bad amp...I am guessing none of them are blown.

In my car, the front woofers were blown and my rears (aftermarket) were just sitting in the paper baffles. The PO didn't even bother to secure them to anything. I would certainly describe that sound as tinny, i.e., sound in a 'tin' can sound.
