I know there is a difference between the two rotor choices.

Good luck,
Rob43

Sure, I've owned countless cheap rotors & many expensive rotors. They cheap wear out quicker & rust. The higher cost rotors don't do either.

Do a Google search on this, it's a classic "you get what you pay for" scenario.

Good luck,
Rob43

But Rob43, do you know what the specific differences are in this case?

I am not claiming that there is no difference, nor am I agreeing that there is. I'm just saying I don't know, but it's important to consider that sometimes this is just marketing.

I, too, was a track guy and I've also bought countless rotors over the years. At least in my experience, I've found that it's a crapshoot - more often then not, the whitebox product was the same as the premium product - same casting, same brand name (stamped on the rotor), same part number. Just a different box and a different price. That's not always the case, but it has been quite frequently, especially when the same manufacturer has multiple lines, line Brembo and Eurorotor (and potentially Centric and Stoptech). Sometimes the difference can be that one comes with painted hats/vanes and the other doesn't, or some other coating or finishing. Back in the day, if it was a crappy rotor it was generally made in China, and the good rotors were either made in US, Canada or Italy. Now I'm guessing that even a lot of premium-branded product is manufactured in China, and the quality is much better than it used to be.

Again, I am not saying that I know this is the case here. But it sounds like you don't know for sure either.

I don't want a flame war here. You seemed to be "correcting" my comments, so I thought I'd try to learn whatever you knew about these rotors and I didn't. But it seems that your statement about the differences isn't from firsthand knowledge of this product, any more than mine. Out of curiosity, perhaps we can both exchange pictures of the product we get (incl the stampings, etc) and share our new-found knowledge with the group. You may be entirely right, and either way it's good for people to know better what they are getting.

BTW, checked out your Vimeo - your car sounds amazing on the dyno!!! what drivetrain mods were on it when you did that (sorry, hard to follow all the asterisks)?

PS - I know that drilled rotors aren't the best idea for the street, but given the price and the bling bling factor I decided to go for it!

cheers,

^ I guess unless we (You or I) send both rotors out for a metallurgical testing, we'll never really know.

http://www.labtesting.com/services/m...gical-testing/

On a side note: I am the forum member that bought & tested the Raceland Coilovers when they first came out. They of course were a complete failure, RRT (Road Racing Technologies) performed the computerized testing.

If we all contribute to a Paypal fund, we can get this done. I'd guess 10 forum members needed at $50 dollars each.

A new thought: When you get yours, weigh it on the most accurate digital scale you have. If & when I buy mine I can do the same, this is of course assuming the same BMW car model (330). If they weigh in at different weights, then one of them (mine) is "High Carbon" & the other is not. Not perfectly scientific, but weighing them is free.

Sure, Rob43, if I can get my hands on a scale to weigh them I'm happy to.

I hope that this isn't a matter of "I'm right/you're wrong" - it should just be us sharing our knowledge and experience.

Although, I do hope I'm right since I bought the cheaper ones!!

I don't really care one way or another.

So......If & when you measure them, go for your best accuracy.

Well, when dealing with brakes I dont want to live in doubt. Im ordering the High Carbon set. Was going to go with Posiquiets as well, but they were 30 cheaper and not for performance, so im sticking with stoptech street. He tells me they will ship tomorrow. $350. Thanks for changing my mind Rob

You know Rob, people can disagree or debate something on a forum and not be a d!ck to each other. Apparently not in your world.

Carbon, congrats, I'm sure you'll be happy with your choice

Thank you Z. I think most of the people on this forum just have misunderstandings with eachother. I have the same thing, where Ill experience something so good that I know everyone around me needs to have it. Simple truth is not everyone knows everything. Thats why we're all here. To figure it out together.

I know this. My job is the forums

Carbon, when you get yours, can you take an exact measurement (weight) of one of your new rotors ?

One of the two boxes shipped arrived at my P.O. box yesterday, but the second is now expected on Saturday due to the July 4 holiday. I hope to go pick them up sometime next week.

Mine came in today. I didn't get tracking for a few days. They should show up for you, if you ordered Monday, today or Monday the latest I think. I'm on the east coast and got them pretty quick. Click image for larger version
