Sam's Insanity Thread

Hey guys, I've never posted in this forum so here goes. I've been lifting fairly well for the past 9ish months and I feel like I've gotten a lot bigger (actually I have) in terms of muscle but haven't lost all that much fat. I do eat clean with lots of lean meats and veggies, watching carb intake, cook at home as much as possible, when I do go out I try and watch what I eat, etc. The only limitation I feel that I've always had was the lack of a good cardio routine (I just get bored spending 20 minutes running or stationary biking) to help get rid of the fat and I've always had non-existent abs. Because of all of this, I have a gut that I want to get rid of as well as trim down everywhere else.

With that said, I "procured" () the Insanity workout to try and get a structured cardio routine and get rid of some of this fat before going back to lifting. I know that there are other ways to burn off the calories with eating less of them but this is the way I decided to do this in order to motivate me and give me a structured workout.

I guess the reason I'm making this thread is to try and get some motivation to stay on it from you guys and to also help keep me accountable for staying with this for the next 60 days.

Anyway, I'm starting in like 20 minutes and hopefully this will be a good adventure.

Stats:
Height: 5 feet 8 inches
Age: 28
Goals: 155-160lbs, 32in waist
Day 1: 185lbs, 36in waist

I'll provide at least weekly updates on weight and will post up other things I discover as I go.

Wish me luck...here goes.

Crossfit football workouts, talk to Solly, I've lost 11 lbs in the past 2+ months.

These workouts incorporate heavy compound lifts and HIIT.

Also add tabata workouts (goggle it and download a timer app)

Trust me this stuff works.

Check out mine or Sollys thread for workout ideas.

I also thought I needed a cut and I ended up looking starved. Don't do insanity. My 155lb roommate is doing it now too. I have a god damn cf facility in our place and this dude hops around like a fairy all day.

Will definitely be doing that as soon as I complete this routine. I really want to get my cardio going because that's where I am most lacking.

I need to look like the guy on the left before the one on the right.

My plan is to get into crossfit as soon as I finish the 60 day routine in order to build back the lost muscle.

If I had a facility in my house and my roommate taught the classes, it would be different. Your roommate is an idiot.

The fact that he pays for a gym membership when he has access to one at home is the dumbest part.

Did that for a while, now need to lose weight rather than gain it haha. Will definitely go back after I complete this.

Update: Day 1 was just the fit test and it really showed me how out of shape I am. Not so much in soreness from muscle fatigue but getting out of breath very quickly. Hoping to gain some endurance throughout the process so I don't feel like I'm going to die in the middle of a workout.

That said, I feel really good today and ready to go for day 2 even though this is the first real workout.

Any advice to keep energy levels up during a workout and avoid dizzyness and other such things?

dude you don't need to get to any point before starting CF stuff. It will get you where you want to be. If a program ever required you to get in shape before starting it, it would be a stupid program.

It seems you have your mind made up, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to get into better cardiovascular shape.

Remember, however, that diet dictates fat loss (or muscle gain, or both). You should always train heavy, compound lifts. ESPECIALLY when cutting.

Given your stats, I don't think you are eating clean like you think you are / wouldn't have that much BF on you. I'm not the biggest guy, but I'm 6'0 and you have 5 lbs on me.

Got any more info on CrossFit? You can PM me if you want. More so looking into general info beyond what I can find with Google, where to do it, how much it costs, etc.

I still want to finish this program just for my own desire to actually finish one of these after I start but do want to get into other things when I finish.

I track everything I eat using a phone app and stay at or a little below my maintenance calories. My wife's best friend from high school is a nutritionist, she gave me this diet so...

Ask anything about it you want to know. I can talk about it for hours. I just started Crossfit Newburgh too if you want check out the FB and instagram pages

Google crossfit affiliate map and you can find local "boxes". Tell me what's in your area and I can look at them to give you an idea of what they may be like. The cost is usually about 120-200 a month depending on location.

You can follow my progress thread and see the workouts I do.

You will lift heavy and move fast. Lots of barbell work and olympic lifts, gymnastics (anything with body weight, not necessarily flying around on uneven bars), and cardio stuff like running, rowing.
