:: ECS Tuning :: E46 M3 VF Engineering Cold Air Intake System|Alpha-N Tuning

VF engineering has designed a truly effective Cold Air Intake, improving upon the E46 M3 factory airbox by incorporating its cold-air routing while employing a freer flowing filter element. The results are stunning power gains throughout the rpm range.

This cold air intake system with tune deletes your vehicle's factory mass air flow sensor and tunes it to in Alpha-N, unlocking more horsepower than any conventional cold air intake system will allow. By running in Alpha-N, this intake delivers gains of up to 35 horsepower at the wheels and 25ft/lbs torque. With a discrete, OEM-look, this intake is a fashionable and yet not out-of-place addition under the hood. The integrated airbox features a cone-style filter, allowing for additional airflow over the conventional panel filter - more surface area equals more volume of flow. The included intake elbow allows for fitment with a standard M3 or CSL front bumper.

Nice looking intake. Would it be available without an alpha tune? I may consider a purchase, but will have Jordan from RK Tunes tune my car.

Thanks

Like that this intake has an oem look to it. I think a carbon fiber cover would be a nice touch.

You would not want to run the intake without a tune, as it requires an Alpha N tune due to the deleted maf. Either the VF tune or a custom tune by one of the many tuners around will be required with this intake.

Placed my order tonight. I usually spend most of my money on maintenance but thought it was time to do something fun.

This looks like a great cheaper alternative to a CSL intake.

So far I'm going to have to say pass on this one.
Fitment doesn't seem to be all that great and I still haven't figured how to install the tune.
There are absolutely no directions included and can't find any instructions online either.

Looks like a guy had the same problem over on M3Fourms but he was able to get it to fit. the flash should be fairly simple plug the OBD adapter into car and hook it up to a laptop with eh USB cord.

So far no luck. Think I've got the intake mounted now, just have to figure out how to mount the headlamp ballast.
As far as the tune, someone from VF sent me a download link for the driver/software. Hopefully I can get the files sent to them today.

i know it sounds simple, but have you tried emailing VF for instructions. Usually their supercharger kits come with very detailed instructions.

Got some help from VF. They e-mailed me the directions and I got the intake all installed and downloaded the stock tune to send to them.
Now just have to wait on them to send me the modified files back.
Hopefully won't take too long.

For anyone interested, still no luck here.
Still haven't received my tune and it's starting to look like I may not.
Just trying to keep folks posted.

Keep in mind it was Labor Day weekend, a lot of places were closed Monday.

When did you send the tune?

Maybe I'm just being paranoid....
Not really trying to bash anyone, just sharing my experience so others know this is not an easy process.

Bought the package from ECS. When it was missing the software and I contacted them all I got was the description from the product page copied and pasted. I was told someone would contact me back and never heard from them. The person I talked to seemed more interested in making sure I knew I couldn't return it.

When I got in touch with VF, I finally got the software sent to me and sent the files friday. Talked to them again on Monday - they were open - and was told I'd have the tune by end of day. Called again Tuesday morning and was told the same - by end of day. Called Tuesday afternoon before they closed and was told they were there 30 minutes more and I'd have it.

Still nothing.

If that's the case, keep pestering them. Or make ECS get in contact with them to get the tune since it was originally sold with it.
