The ass on that car looks horrible. Other than that, a nice design.

This M3 will always take the cake IMO.

Not like you're biased or anything. The new cars look great, especially in person.

I like driving/riding in all the other generations M3s, but the E46 M3 just has so much win going for it. ~430 hp NA from a 3.2 liter inline six with bolt ons and a tune.

If only bolts ons meant the same thing with our cars as they do with domestics, with the E46 those bolt ons will run you as much as a supercharger.

I would say it sounds closer to a P-car with a flat six.

It is a really great car to drive all around. The track performance smokes the E46 but is a bit more isolated despite the solid mounted rear subframe. Disappointingly unstable on braking, I think the carbon ceramic brake bias is a little off. Insanely balanced around the corners and so much torque from the I6 putting the power down in problematic.

On the street it is a big car, but it makes it much more usable in daily life. The E46 M3 is great but a little cramped at times for anything but solo driving. With this car BMW has acknowledged most people can't afford a 70K weekend toy or don't want to actually daily drive a race car for the street (too stiff, to loud, to complicated). There are a few younger drivers that could pony up for the M3 and enjoyed the rough ride but that wasn't the majority of the buyers. With the tech in the F80 M3 and F82 M4 it gives you the best of both worlds. Softer ride for the street and a stiff capable suspension for the track. It does sully the ownership experience as you're not commuting to a lifestyle with the M3 and now M4 any more, but it doesn't mean it isn't a great car.

I bet the white car is totaled and will be crushed. They might be able to fix the blue one. I was on track when the blue car when off at the kink. I pulled back on kink entry speed after seeing that. I know who was driving but won't be posting as a professional courtesy. I could have just as easily screwed up and wrote off a new M3/M4.

Thanks! It was one of the most fun press events I've been to. Unlimited access to the track. Driving instruction from BMW Performance Center Driver Matt Mullins and Tom Long, TUDOR prototype class driver. M3 and M4 with carbon ceramic brakes, and tires supplied by BMW The hot lap in the ALMS E92 M3 with Bill Auberlen was the highlight, that car and his driving was insane and we were running at 75% speed.
