Wow $45/hr? Even in NYC that's a nice income, had no idea.

You're going to be the one that looks absurd because you couldn't figure out how to collect a mere $667 as a hospital bill collector." The fun part about it all is that my insurance is going to cover that.

Next time she calls, I'm going to ask her how many times she's asked cancer patients for money that day, and if she likes her job extorting sick people for exorbitant amounts of money before going through their insurance company.

**** our current healthcare system.
For a claim that small, most collection agencies take a 50% contingency fee. So if they were to collect in full, which rarely happens, the hospital would only get $333. More likely the collection agency would offer to settle for 60%-80% of the full amount (assuming you don't pay up right away), so the hospital will end up with only 30%-40% of the original bill. This doesn't even take into consideration the fact that hospitals initially bill you a way-inflated amount but settle for much less.

I'd offer them $300 and call it a day. Having to send something to collections is not something a business wants to do.

My dentist used to be great. Totally friendly, honest, and careful. It's really too bad he killed himself. A true loss to humanity.

We live in Canada, not the crooked US of A where tuitions r a bzillion $$'s.
Depends on the school.

University of toronto is as expensive if not more expensive than any US dental school.

University of british columbia is even worse.

Then you have a school like university of alberta which is about 30% cheaper than most state schools in the US. Very attactive pricing which is why they have a huge amount of applicants. Based on their statistics its like winning the lottery. 31 seats per class and 85% reserved for alberta residents.. GOOD luck with that.

Another catch to most schools there is they are incredible competitive. Of my graduating class in Florida 20% where Canadian students who couldn't get in back home.

These aren't slackers and had equal grades and scores compared to the people who did get in but either didn't have the personality or extracurricular to get through he interview process.

Of the ~15 canadians in my class only a couple are going back FWIW.

Things aren't all rainbows and butterflies in Canada like you guys lead on.

^ U of Saskatchewan.

BEST education around. The best tuition cost to quality of education ratio in North America. Granted, it is elite, in that U of S only accepts Sask residents (well, except for 2 of (out-of-province) 22 dental students, & 5 of 60 medical students, & 8 of 75 pharmacy students.) U of S likes to keep its education within itself....that is, they are banking on Sask graduates staying in Sask. That doesn't happen. Too F cold. I left soon after getting my doctorate.

in Australia, dentists are looked at nothing more than technicians. srs.

My bro is a D.M.D., vs D.D.S. (Doctor of Medicinal Dentistry. U of S is elite. Waaay better education.)

My basic degree is B.S.P. vs B.Sc.P. (Bachelor's of Medicinal Science in Pharmacy. U of S is elite. Waaay better education.)

I, & my IDENTICAL TWIN bro', belong to the best post-secondary education in North America.

When a pharmacy graduate sees that I am a BSP'er (vs B.Sc.P'er)....they instantly know I am a graduate of the U of S.....same thing with a DMD'er (vs a DDS). U of S.

U of S rocks. U of S is like the Harvard of Canada

I can tell, & my bro', when we have even the simplest of discussions with graduates from other universities, that our U of S education is clearly better (& elite ) .

Not being a dyck, to other Canadian graduates,......but, ..just stating facts.

So...yes....I am king. ( & yes, ..you can call me ...DR. Beemerdude, ......even though, truly, ...I only respond to ..."Hey, A$$hole"?!)

(Thanks Dad, ....srs.... for "pushing us" twins to go to the U of S,... vs UBC or U of Alberta, or Ontario, etc. And, yes, I like the way I type, so p1ss off before there is a post about my dots ...)

There's no difference between a DDS and a DMD. The degrees are equivalent.

You know you flappy-headed Canadians are allowed into Harvard, right? So I guess that makes the "Harvard of Canada"... Harvard.

That, and if you're having to tell us it's as prestigious as Harvard... it's not.

Wow, a lot of misdirected anger towards dentist. OP I understand your frustration, but to call all dentist crooks and uneducated med school drop outs is a little unfair.
Just like anything in life, there are good ones and there are bad ones. Find yourself a dentist you can trust and one that takes pride in the work they do. As a specialist, I see a lot of shady work. The best way to find the good ones is by word of mouth.
