The RX8 is a great car for the price, but it is again, a mazda. IMHO I would rather the added security, reliability, craftsmanship, and safety of a BMW over the mazda. Even though it's a great car and mazda's have come a long way, I just like the BMW over it. I don't care about performance (well I do but not in this sense), the BMW just has the class, looks, build quality, safety, and much much more over the RX8. IMHO nothing will ever top the RX7, just too sexy of a car!

I don't like the rotary engine but I do like the 9k redline so I don't know I wouldn't pick either.

The RX8 is AWESOME in person, pictures don't capture it's stylish depth.
You do have to see it in person to get what the designer was after.
The interior is light years ahead in design to BMW's 3 series.
As far as realiability, in my view Mazda is no more of less reliable than BMW.
But in terms of materials used, BMW uses some very nice interior parts.
BMW is not quite up to Audi standards in terms of materials used but BMW is still a bit ahead of Mazda. However, the interior style of the RX8 is plenty gorgeous.

I agree the RX7 was classic sports car shape and it still looks awesome.
The RX8 is a different idea and I applaud Mazda for giving it a shot. It's NOT supposed to be the RX7 replacement, it's a new model. In fact, Mazda is still considering an update for the RX7.

TT

I would go RX-8 vs a 325i. Rotaries have a coolness factor to them (for me). Yes, the RX-7 blew a lot of engines, but these Renesis powerplants are supposed to be a lot more reliable (according for Mazda). But we won't know that until a couple of miles are put on them to make a case one way or the other. I'm waiting a year before I consider a RX-8, just to make sure the engine is mechanically sound. Even if it isn't it is covered under warranty. You might wait cause there are rumors of Forced Induction systems from Mazda Speed for em. As well as an RX-7 if the RX-8 does well.

I really like the look of the RX-8 but I like my e46's looks more.
