Replacing E46 speaker/sound system

I just got a 2000 328i. It has the base system, non-HK.
I want to replace my whole system including all speakers, head unit, and amp. Im on a smaller budget like $400.. I want something crisp with decent bass. Not looking to shatter windows. Can you let me know what size all the speakers are, which amp etc. Also, can i put in a touchscreen deck. Like a 6-8" one in the stock stereo.. It is the business Cd. Thanks for all the help!

Is your stock setup in good shape? I'm looking to go back to stock if you decide to get rid of your old setup.

If the car was built for the Canadian market it doesn't have a separate amp in the trunk. That is, the amp AND the crossovers are in the OEM head unit. Replacing the head unit with a new head unit will require a new amp AND crossovers. Also, a fair amount of rewiring as the wires for each individual speaker come from the head unit.
