what is this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1834157210

a custom carbon fiber rear seatback i had fabricated for BMW 3 series. it may fit other cars with minor trimming. it replaces your OEM seatback. as you can see from the pictures, the carbon fiber is absolutely perfect. this piece was manufactured by the same company that does the carbon fiber for many CART and IRL race teams. i have only used it for a couple months, and have decided to part out my car. perfect for show or race cars.

Whats the purpose? A rear seat back in carbon? Is that for confort?

It looks like a show piece. I can't imagine you could be comfortable sitting on something that hard (no jokes please!)

Isn't that Ernie's car?

I think it was just to separate the passenger cabin from the trunk.

months back i was contemplating on reducing weight and the thought came across to take the backrest out from the rear alngwith the backseat. is this the reason for that and also provide rigidity to compensate for the fold down rear seats.
won't it be a tad narrower for coupes.
